8. i have quite a few plus started a "sleeve" for my left arm last week
which will take about 4 more sessions to complete. the design for my sleeve is "biomechanical". the "sleeve" will cover up two older tattoos that i have grown tired of. after a certain point, for me, i wont be able to "count" my tats because they will all connect.

18. No I just listen to my husband. Dumb me, I know.
And I am trying to become a mom and I have this perhaps incorrect belief that I have to act like a Mom if I am to become a Mom. You know?
You're right. It doesn't matter what anyone says. I actually got both of my tattoos after marrying my husband who hates them. I guess my real reason is the mom thing. Maybe I should get a big old fertility tattoo right on my stomach! What do you think?

prove to the Universe that I am child-worthy. We just found out we have to use donor sperm; my husbands vasectomy reversal was not successful.
When you want to be a mom so bad, and keep getting slapped in the face, you come up with some weird ideas...believe me!

Happy Mom, if you are a mom you don't have to "act" like one.

22. It can't be a teenage fad
teenagers grow older, and those tattoos will grow old with them.
The worst argument about not getting a tatoo is "what about when you're 80 and you have a tattoo?" My answer to that: When you're 80 with tattoos, a lot of other 80 year-olds will also be tattooed. At that age, I think that would be the least of your worries.

There is sort of a tattooed club concept. On a day you don't want to be in the tattooed-person-group, then wear something to cover it!

My advice: get it only on a place that can be easily covered. Not on the face, neck, or hands!

Maybe it's an anime elf? Or something else entirely?

I have a unicorn on my ankle with my older sons name below it.
I have a honeybee on my left thigh.

I have a rabbit, a butterfly and a dolphon on my back.

My next big one I'd like to get is a Goddess sitting in lotus holding up the "Om" symbol.

My mom and I have also talked about getting small ones on our ankles of the chinese symbols for "mother and daughter."

I don't think having tattoos makes me any less of a mom. :D

These are almost to scale too-lucky accident!

My first:

Aiki-the kanji for harmony and energy-from when I studied aikido. Right bicep. I had this done at Keepsake tattoos in Arlington VA. Someday I'll live in a town with an aikido dojo again.

next:

Mizu-kanji for water. Left shoulder. I am an Aquarius. My left arm is my "zodiac" arm, and my right arm is my "martial arts" arm. I had this done at Sin City tattoos in Las Vegas.

next:

The top symbol is year of the rabbit, the bottom one is year of the tiger. Left bicep, done at East Coast Tattoos in Arlington VA. Depending on whose calendar you go by, I am either a rabbit or a tiger-i fall right in between.

next:

Ken-kanji for sword. Right upper bicep, from East Coast Tattoos. I used to study the sword (foil, saber, katana), so this one is also on my martial arts arm.

finally:

Zodiac symbol for Aquarius, lower left shoulder. From Tattouages deBill, an artist in Quebec. Got this after a professional meeting a year and a half ago in Quebec City during a tattoo convention. Even got interviewed by the CBC...

I have several more planned.

50. I have one. I got it when I was 47.
I went with a friend of mine who wanted to get a tatoo on her wrist. I told her several times how crazy she was to get one at her age (she's about 7-8 years younger than me).

While she was getting hers done I got bored and started looking at all of the designs they had posted. I found a really cool set of flowers that remind me of Texas wildflowers that bloom here in the early spring. Next thing I knew I was getting a tatoo myself on my right shoulder.

Haven't regretted getting it one bit.

I want several more and plan to get one at least every ten years, if not every five.

60. But,
what if you were a John Doe or Jane Doe? Your family would be so thankful for the identifying marks, so they could finally have closure. :nopity:

Half the people who know me don't know that I have tattoos. I also sometimes forget that I have tattoos, until summertime, when people see them. The most dreaded question: "what is the symbolic meaning?" "what does it mean to you?" (I have fruits, candies, birds, flowers, & a big space-robot-battle-scene)

I usually don't answer these questions directly because:
#1 Even I'm not sure what they mean, or why I even got them.
#2 If he/she can't make a guess about the meaning, then he/she is trying to categorize an eclectic person (like me) or, is prying for information that is none of his/her business.

I think the curiosity is fine & I understand! Almost all people who come up close to look are cool about it, and say nice things. Only a few people per year ask questions that are unanswerable or say things that are not polite.

...on my left pectoral. I got it 14 years ago when I was in the army. I knew I wanted one but wasn't sure what I wanted. I ended up getting one similar to my wife's, who already had one, in a similar place. Now I don't have the wife but I still have the tat. It has served me well however when I choose to use it. It once allowed me to break the ice with a stripper because she had a similar one on her hip and my new and improved wife was impressed with it because I could make the heart beat. She feels that the worth of a tattoo is based on what you can make it do.

#1: Dolphin jumping out of water on my left shoulder blade. I got it because I got to swim with dolphins and well, it was really cool.

#2: Small red heart on my right hip bone. I went to a tattoo place on Ventura Blvd. with a group of friends, we all ended up getting the same tattoo, although everyone else got it on their ankle (I wanted mine in a place I could easily cover up).
