Mysterious Frankfurt airport gas origins unknown

FRANKFURT - Airport officials admitted on Thursday they were baffled about a mysterious gas released the previous evening near a Lufthansa check-in counter in Frankfurt, since the smell had dissipated by the time emergency crews reached the scene.

An airport spokesman said the 61 staff who were taken to hospital coughing and with runny eyes in the incident at 8 pm on Wednesday had been later discharged and some had returned to work. No passengers were affected, but flights were delayed by the emergency.
