Poll question: Cher (pic heavy)
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 01:04 PM by HypnoToad
1960s:

(OMG, she looks like a human. And not unlike Barbara Feldon for that matter, see right!)

1970s:

(Whoo boy... queludes were popular at this time period, yes?)

1980s:

(NO NO NO NO NO! By 1989, she looked like the sort of chick you'd find on the corner of 4th and Hennepin. And what she did on the turret of that naval carrier in 1989... :puke: )

1990s:

(Not bad. Not bad at all.)

todays:

(How many straight men is she holding up?)

(PUKE ALERT!)

And as an added bonus to you K-Hyp listeners:

Now compare that pic to 1978 Princess Ardala from 'Buck Rogers' (the two on the right) and wince)

3. She did have her moments...
but it's all marketing hype. And how much of a circus act one can look.

That's not dissing Cher, actually. Most if not all of Hollywood's stars wear bizarre clothes and do bizarre things. Cher is not quite immune.

6. My dear
If you have any sense of pitch at all, the woman can't sing. She has a flat emotionless voice with one volume, loud, it does not stay on pitch, she has no singing technique, and the stuff she sings is garbage. Must I go on?

5. Appearance-wise,
she was born with a lovely bone-structure and I would like to see what she would have looked like if she had stayed natural - probably quite beautiful.

She seems like a down-to-earth, intelligent person in interviews.

8. I honesty bet she is...
I don't mean to have sounded hateful against Cher. But, let's face it, I have a knack of applying my sardonic, "please get a life" sense of humor to anything and any one.

Besides, the moment a comedian takes a side, they'd get hounded for the rest of eternity. That's why comedy where they blast everybody is so much more refreshing. Even if we all get zinged somewhere. :D

I like comedy where they make fun of all the celebrity worship, like Howard Stern and Kathy Griffith do. I figure since those celebrities get all that worship and as-kissing, they shouldn't mind if people make fun of them too.

To add: Cher seems to be the type that doesn't take herself too seriously.

9. she made that video on the USS Missouri homeported in
Long Beach at the time.It was one of the battleships that Reagan recommissioned that was originally decommissioned. I reported onboard for duty about 2 months later( I missed it) and was on it during Desert Storm a bit over a year later. That ship was used as a hollywood prop on several occasions since it was homeported basically in LA. It was also used in "Under Seige". The boys on the ship talked about CHer for months after the video shoot.

I personally don't care for her music but think she is a fine person!

Seriously.

(I was joking about the crack about the turret, but it was too irresistable.)

13. Please don't get me started.
First off, go ahead and bitch about her voice untill you're all blue in the face.

Cher is probably one of the most down to earth, friendly people in show business. Dorian Sanchez who is Cher's creative right arm and very close friend went to high school with me. I was able to hook up with Dori last new years after one of the Cher's shows. She loves her job. She loves working with Cher and told me she is wonderful to work with. All the dancers and crew just all love each other and love working with her.

So blow all the hot air you want.

Cher fucking ROCKS!

17. Sock it to me! BTW,
:bounce:

BTW, you forgot to say that she's a supporter of gay rights. Last time I checked, I am gay. So what? Or do people support her because they spin her words into a gay friendly context? Doesn't matter either way to me.

Now if ethic comedians can whip zingers on their own, then why can't I?

Simmer down, dude. If you think I am targeting her out for something ( :eyes: ), go read my other messages in this thread. Other people obviously are blowing hot air all over the place. I am not. Not by comparison. But perception is a many splintered thing. After all, anyone who doesn't agree with us 100% on our beliefs can be seen as a loonie too.

19. Get a life, people.
She's had some good songs and I know she's a liberal democrat. So what? Does that mean it's evil that anybody poke some innocent comedic fun and I should be strung by the goolies in front of a warmly applauding audience?

Read my other responses, and other peoples' responses and look at the whole issue. Don't scapegoat me. May as well scapegoat Damon Wayans as being anti-gay because of his character he did on "In Living Color".

How fucking ridiculous.

Enough said. (never say "enough said" until the one you're accusing gets a frigging chance to respond.)

15. No photo of her singing "Half Breed???"
How dare you, Sir...HOW DARE YOU!!!

She looked attractive in Moonstruck, but overall she's too campy and draggish for me. I'm glad for people who really like her, though.

16. IMNSHO
she is a terrible singer BUT she is one hell of a performer. She knows how to do what she does very well. Whatever she has done or had done to keep up her appearance has helped her to last far longer than she would have most likely. I don't buy her stuff and would not go to see her but I have to respect that she knows the business. There are many like her, most recently the horrible Britany and her clones. Great at what they do. Musicians? Nope but boy can they work a stage.

20. The C-Span call
She's not my kind of singer but I've really respected her ever since that time last year when she phoned into C-Span. Here it is. I copied this a long time ago and no longer have a link:

Peter Slen, C-Span Moderator: Good Morning Miami Beach

caller: Good morning! Thank you for C-span, I watch it every day! Uh, I would like to say i had the occasion the other day to spend the entire day with troops that had come back from iraq & had been wounded and..um...I also visited troops during the vietnam era...but the thing that I was most shocked by...um...as I walked into the hospital the first person i ran into was a boy about 19 or 20 years old who'd lost both of his arms...and when I walked into the hosptial & visited all these boys all day long...uh...everyone had lost either one arm...one limb or two limbs or had lost one limb and there were...there were a lot of legs that seemed to be missing and a couple of the boys told me it was because that their vehicles ...that the rockets pierce the vehicles so much its like being kind of in a tin can...it doesnt have...there isnt...the walls of the humvees are very soft and theres no protection...but three guys in the same vehicle have lost a leg. ...and another thing that I saw was that...um...if they'd lost one leg that... that shrapnel that had hit the other leg had been so devastating that they were having to pull like the thigh...you know...the muscle and the thigh around the bottom of the calf to try to make the leg workable but in some cases these boys had lost one leg and the other leg was so damaged that they weren't sure what they were gonna be able to do.

C-Span Moderator: Where did you spend the day?

caller: Walter-Reed.

C-Span Moderator: And you're down in Miami beach, back in Miami beach?

caller: I'm down here today.

C-Span Moderator: what were you doing at walter -reed? are you a volunteer?

caller: no, I was just asked to come and spend the day. I was working that day in Washington, DC and...

C-Span Moderator: what kind of work do you do?

caller: um, i'm an entertainer.

C-Span Moderator: oh, what kind of entertaining? are you USO?

caller: no, I actually was called by the USO but I'm...I'm...I'm just...I'm an entertainer. And I really dont want to go much past that but...um...

C-Span Moderator: Is this CHER?

caller: yeah.

C-Span Moderator: (worshipful silence) ok. And you spent the day at walter-reed.

caller: Yeah. And I spent the day with, I mean they were great guys...and the the men that took me around were in the...you know...the services, you know, they were fabulous men...uh...Mike and John ...and they these boys had unbelievable courage and they still said for the most part that they were glad that they they did it, they felt that it was their duty...and there were a few of the national guards that felt it was their duty that once they were over there but they wondered why they were taken out of America to spend that much time as actual service men when they really felt that their job was to be, you know, protecting this country. ...but I, I have to say that they had the most unbelievable courage and it took everything that I have as a person to...to not...you know... break down while I was talkin to these guys...but I just think that if there was no reason for this war this was the most heinous thing I'd ever seen... and also I wonder why...why are none of Cheney, Wolfowitz, Bremer, the president, why aren't they taking pictures with all these guys? Because I don't understand why these guys are so hidden and why... and why there aren't pictures of them because you know, talking about the dead and the wounded...that's two different things but these wounded are so devastatedly wounded...you know...that I think that... the wounded...its just... it's unbelievable...its just unbelieivable to me and i'm an independent but I....

C-Span Moderator: Are you supporting anyone yet for 2004? You supported ross perot, correct? in 92?

caller: Yeah, I mean when I heard him talk right in the beginning I thought that he would bring some sort of common-sense business approach and also less partisanship but then of course...you know... I was completley disappointed like everyone else when he just kind of cut and ran and no one knew exactly why ...you know...being that maybe he couldn't have withstood all the investigation that goes on now...but...um...you know...I'm not a bush supporter, that for sure...and I'm definitely not Ashcroft or Cheney or any of them...but I would just like to see them have...you know, if youre going to send these people to war then don't hide them, you know...and have some... have some news coverage where people are sitting and talking to these guys and seeing how they are and seeing their spirit and its just... I just... I think its a crime.

C-Span Moderator: When you were up here for your farewell concert earlier this month, is that when you went to walter reed?

caller: Yeah.

C-Span Moderator: Ok well thanks for your time this morning, thanks for watching.

caller: Oh I have to tell you I watch you every day and I really appreciate it because I go all over the world and I must say that the news we get in America has nothing to do with the news that you get outside of this country And I think that's why people don't..people don't understand why so many of the allies did not...you know, our usual allies did not join us because if you get outside the United States you hear a different kind of news you know and so...

C-Span Moderator: What's your favorite news source outside the US?

Caller: Well there's a source that I really like inside the US that gives you special documentaries called WORLDLINK but I think my favorite source outside the US is BBC because they are our allies but you still get...on the nightly news you get...you know, much more coverage and I think much more honest coverage...I dont know, I guess they're not...well...they're independent so they're not owned by any of the major corporations that are... you know, have vested interest in this war.

C-Span Moderator: thanks for your call this morning.

caller: ok, thank you!

21. Oh, c'mon

I think she's gorgeous. And yes, she intends never to be a day older than 22 at heart and a performer until the day she drops dead...on stage, of course. But she gets the humor of it all, that's the great part, even if the voice was never all that and certainly can't be even that now. The true Gypsy Heart (Armenian and Cherokee, about as close as you can get).

I think she gorgeous, and sexy, and it's all a game with a wink and a sorrow- and a joy. No, the lyrics don't matter- the exuberance does. And yes, if she wants me badly enough- okay, at all- I'll do her. Too :-) (Yes, you know you'd fall too.)
