STOP THIS NOW!
I am sick of people asking if RW ideologues are gay. Those of us who are gay generally don't appreciate it. So PLEASE - STOP NOW!

33. I must agree:
And I am gay.

If they are RW and do things that hurt all homosexuals, then out them. They don't need us and they're obviously hurting us for their own selfish benefit, so let their leechlike masters eat them alive.

we are not really wanting to know if they are gay, but if they are hypocrites.

it would be one thing if they were just asking out of genuine curiosity, but it's clear they are using the term homosexual as a means to humiliate and degrade.

it makes ME feel unwelcome. I'm sure that's not the intent, but try imagining how you might feel in my/our situation.

15. Well in Bush's case it would matter
Because he was the guy who proposed a constitutional amendment banning gay marriage. He was the one who got selected on an anti-gay moral platform.

23. not to be pedantic, but
Rep. Musgrave of CO proposed the amendment. * just backed the piece of shit.

And I don't care if * or Rush -- or anyone else who talks about ME like I'm shit -- is gay. It doesn't fucking matter. When you make that accusation or assumption, more negativity is sloshed on gay people and it's got to stop.

16. yes, it does matter. if these very people are going to work so hard
to deny gay people the rights that the rest of us have, then their hypocrisy should be pointed out. anything that can keep them from trying to enact their agenda on the rest of us should be pursued IMHO (well, almost anything)... the high road won't get dems shit except for more lost seats and elections IMHO...

21. The point is this.
It insults me when anyone says, for example, "I bet Ann Coulter's a lesbian." Why? Because the person saying that probably loathes Ann Coulter, and pointing this out is one more reason to loathe her.

Either one loathes her extra because she's gay or loathes her extra because one perceives her to be a hypocrite. Notice that one's willing to think the worst of her based on either fact or fiction, doesn't matter which.

No matter what, either loathing or hypocrisy gets applied generally to gay people, and I am sick of it.

25. i think you're applying a false dichotomy to the whole situation
it's not that simple. if a right-winger who attacks gay rights is legitimately gay (vs. just saying someone is gay for the hell of it, which is HORRIBLY insensitive and does occur around here); then their hypocrisy should be pointed out. if someone is calling a right-winger gay b/c they perceive that would ruin their credibility, then that person should be called out accordingly (as that is not only horridly insensitive, but bigoted and extremely inaccurate as well). i know a lot of emotions are involved in this issue; and i can see your point; but i do think there's more to it than your prior characterization. just my $.02.

26. There's a difference between pointing out (for example) David Dreier's
hypocrisy and posting something like "GWB: Homosexual? (poll)"

I'm really surprised so many people seem to be having difficulty seeing the difference.

advocating that it was never ok to raise the issue of someone's homosexuality, even if they were actively denying gay rights. but i do agree with what you're saying in that post, and that some posters on DU are guilty of poor taste (the GWB poll is a good example of that kind of post).

Who gives a shit who's gay?

It's as if the people asking this question assume that every gay person is a hypocrite if he doesn't publicly proclaim his sexuality on the streetcorner.

For chrissakes, that's exactly what anti-gay idiots think we do just by being on the street!

7. IAs long as it's in the context of exposing hypocrisy...
it's cool with me.

Every one of these people is on the record as an egregious homophobe.

I agree that it's not cool to use "gay" as an insult, so you may be right about the Bush thread, but in Limbaugh's case, he IS widely thought to be a closet gay and may have been arrested at some point for trolling men's rooms.

Since he is a horrible homophobe, that makes him a big-time hypocrite and he deserves to be outed for it - regularly.

Probably much better for your blood pressure. However, I still maintain that there is a difference between pointing out hypocrisy and a number of the posts that have appeared on DU.

As an example, it's one thing to say "Randal Terry Gay? (poll)" vs. "Turns out there's evidence that RW-Homophobe Randall Terry is actually a closet-case". I hope you can see the difference.

35. When the poll says "Rush Limbaugh
Homosexual? Pig? or Homosexual Pig?" then I think it is pretty clear that the term homosexual is being used derisively (the way it is in 2nd grade). I have heard worse and I won't be crying over this callous insult but for the record, I too would rather not see it here.

Someone should have really told me, i woulda dressed for my chat sessions.

Heck-fire I don't know who's gay, who's straight, or who is made from alien DNA, it just really doesn't matter to me. the only thing in my life that matters is equality for everyone, and I mean everyone, well cept that bastard kid down the streets that speeds and stuff.

I've seen the horrors AIDS, I've seen the oppression done to the homosexual community, I've watched a younger brother die. Anyone wanna debate right-wing anti gayness with me can do it with me and my Louisville slugger, swing away Michael, swing away.

for that. It was during the time when not alot helped, AZT was new and made him constantly sick. Then he developed those lesions on his brain and didn't know any of us half the time, nursing homes we're afraid of him, it truely sucked to be an American then, as I'm sure you guys know.

I'm extremely serious when I say this, I will fight to my death in defense of every man and woman in America who wishes only to be seen as equals, joined by love and compassion for each other, free from fear and hatred shed on them by the ignorant. Well, except for StoptheMorans, that guy really shouldn't be allowed to breed, that's just scary.
