3. Oh yes
Condo hunting in Northern Virginia in the Spring.

We're talking rip off mortgage companies, condos flying off the market before they're even listed, etc.

Worst experience I had! I didn't sleep for weeks from the worry.

I had a good persistent agent and eventually I got my place. :)

8. I suppose I should feel lucky for that
I don't have or need a car, so it's not an issue. And my cat lives with my parents.

6. Trying to find a used car
when you're pregnant and four weeks away from your due date and operating on a limited budget.

We're a two-pickup truck household, and we've gotta find something with a back seat.

Okay, maybe it's not worse, but it's just as frustrating.

11. Let's trade "finding what we want" vibes...
I'll vibe you the apartment of your dreams, and you'll vibe me a back seat with good mileage and low miles!

commencing vibe.

14. What Will $1,000 Get You?
Will it get you Park Slope or Forest Hills or at least Flushing?

My aunt lives in a rent controlled apartment in Forest Hills and pays $600.00 a month...

When she moves they will probably get $2,000.00 a month for a 1 bedroom one bath apartment

Mass that costs $1,000 a month. Brand new joint, I'm the first person ever to live here, and it's HUGE :)

17. Just a share, not my own place
I'm paying less than that in Brooklyn, of course, but not having luck finding a place in my current neighborhood (which I like).

20. Well...
I'm paying $375 for a 800sq ft apt in a good complex, built in '92. $200 security deposit & no lease after the first year (goes to month to month).

Yea, there are some advantages to living in Mississippi

I'm going to have to rent out a room soon. Then you have the pressure of interviewing strangers, letting them into your home, having to give up your privacy

22. It's kind of scary isn't it?
I did the craigslist thing once and while some of the people I met were cool, a few were truly... odd.

23. I've learned
that winter isn't a bad time at all to look...you'll know how warm the place is, and how good the insulation. A couple of apartments ago, we were in a place with virtually NO insulation...you know what that's like when it gets down to -20, -30C? The space heater, plus an open oven and layers upon layers of clothing and bedding saved us. In the summer time, it was about 5-7 degrees hotter inside than out. We got out of that place pretty quick.

Now the MOVING in the winter...that's crap. Especially if you're doing it yourself. ;)
