What is your tolerance of being offended?

It's quite obvious that about 75% of the subjects on this forum will offend at least one person. Rating yourself on a scale from 1 to 10, where do you place yourself on the "offensive scale"? 1 being the hardest to be offended and 10 being that you would be offended that I used the word offended.

It takes a while to get used to this joint but being offended is definitely not useful. In fact, the most offensive comments I've run into around here are generally based in a mis-read or misunderstanding of my post. Happily pointing that out is fun.

In my work, again, being offended doesn't work and is really out of the question because I'm grateful to do what I do. As a citizen of the country, I'm offended nearly every day by the mendacity, greed, and, at times, insanity that passes for national leadership.

although it really depends on the circumstances. I am all about being politically correct when you are around people you don't know well. However, with my friends my black humor often comes out. I can joke with people who are educated and sensitive about things that I could never joke about with someone who's ignorant. It's all about context and what's really being said by the person. I'm a social worker though, and we're trained to be PC.

Probably just a 2 or 3... I'm not much offended by what others do/say though I tend to live/behave fairly conservatively myself. I figure that's an alright way to be. And I try not to post things that would offend anybody else (maybe that's why I've been on here over three years and still haven't hit 1500 posts!) just because I hate conflict. And I do slip occasionally... But yeah, that's about where I stand I guess...

There are 60,000 posters here, and chances are that if everybody went screaming to the mods about threads that they were "offended" by every day, there would be 2 threads left; one asking why DU was so dead, and one thread started by a poster who woffended" the the other thread used the term "dead" in a derogatory manner.


The whole hpersensitive PC garbage is the one true thing I despise about on the left.
