Randy Johnson goes to the Yankees
Baseball's rich just keep getting richer, and Boston, that includes you.

Yanks reach a deal for Randy

The Yankees have reached agreement on the principal players in a three-team blockbuster trade that would land them coveted lefthander Randy Johnson, Newsday has learned.

A few details have yet to be worked out, but indications are they are not big enough obstacles to kill the deal.

The Yankees would receive the 41-year-old Johnson in the deal while sending pitcher Javier Vazquez and two minor-league prospects, catcher Dioner Navarro and third baseman Eric Duncan, to the Dodgers, according to an Arizona source. The Dodgers would send pitchers Brad Penny and Yhency Brazoban and outfielder/first baseman Shawn Green to Arizona to complete the deal.

6. that's actually a pretty bad deal for the yanks
this coming from a yankee fan

vazquez was off and on all year, but he was young and has a lot of talent. johnson is 41 years old, and will soon be done. the yankees can never stick with any young players, and just trade them away for superstars. i'm really getting fed up with them. back in 1998-2001, they were great, and had superstars, but they were mostly homegrown. it's kind of getting out of control now.

7. The Yankees never had much homegrown pitching
Pettite and Mo were, but Wells, Cone, and Clemens were all imports.

8. I have mixed feelings
Eric Duncan is a good prospect--not a great one, but almost definitely a major league regular. Navarro is tough. He had a terrible year this past year, but he also reached the majors at age 20. Honestly, the best prospect in the deal might be Brazoban, who the Yankees traded to the Dodgers last year along with Jeff Weaver for Kevin Brown!

Anyway, it's looking like this all might not be happening anyway, so we'll see...
