Poll question: Left or right handed? |
|
Are you left-handed, right-handed, or ambidextrous? I'm a lefty.

3. sorry no personal offense intended but left handed people are evil |
|
left handed complement? evil that came out of left field? evil gauche means socially awkward it's French for left Both my mother-in-law and father were beaten to encourage them to write with their right hand as the Church punished people for their handedness.
The good sit on the right hand of God therefor the evil are on the left.

|
I suspect I would have been if left to my natural devises as a child, but my mother forced me into right handedness from infancy knowing how my father had been treated.

11. The Latin word for left is the root for the word "sinister" |
|
I believe it's "sinistra" (but it's been more than a decade since my last Latin class!). I would assume that whole argument had something to do with people getting their hands slapped with rulers several decades ago.

but the nuns used to smack his hand and make him write with his right hand.
I'm a lefty, as is my brother. My sister and other brother turned out as right-handed.
I'm really ambidextrous, but writing is a lefty thing.

and now she has a very hard tme with right and left directions. Most of us know right from left because we automatically identify with our dominate hand. My mother would have been a lefty as is my son Ian.

|
Read the book "Sinister People" about being left handed..and seems since I am left handed and my mother is also left handed, I am a mirror image of a right handed person! I am not the awkward person I should be, in fact I do not slant my hand to write.

If that was sarcasm, it was lost. It sounds like the fundy speak that passes out of fundy asshats in some of the more extreme Xtian churches in this state.

paint left, throw a softball left, but have adapted to most "right-handed" things. Can openers. Scissors. Mousepad to the right. Can write backwards better than forwards with right hand--trick I learned to impress people. Politics left because I enjoy being right.

I would guess that since it isn't being forced to be right handed these days, there are more left handed people. My nephew is left handed and my friend's child. I'm thinking that soon it will be about 50-50.

|
Edited on Thu Dec-16-04 11:03 PM by brentspeak
I'm righthanded, but I've always kind of envied left-handed people.
I've associated left-handedness with a kind of skewed, unusual creativity. Musicians like Jimi Hendrix and Paul McCartney, for instance. It's like their being left-handed has enabled their brains to think of things that otherwise would be impossible.
I admit -- I am very weird on this point.

31. Looks like we've got our fair share of left-handers here |
|
More than one-third of DUers are left-handed. For some reason I thought only about one-tenth of people were left-handed, so that's kind of a surprising result. Not sure where I'm getting that one-tenth figure from, though, so it may not be all that much of a surprise. Cool, though... I tend to like lefthanders 'cause I feel like they're underdogs or something. I'm a righty myself, though.

I've always been proud of my left-handedness, being as my family tried very hard to convert me. They couldn't break me! It does suck having to write in 3 ring binders, which is something I have to do daily at my job.

I'm also a product of Catholic school which means I was strongly encouraged to write with my right hand. Never could get the hang of it though. My mother was left handed too and complained to Mother Superior about them pressuring me and it ceased to be an issue after that.
