It wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest.
What else would I be doing here?

I work. Apologies for sometimes starting a thread and then, well, needing to work.
I think this may be the last time I bother with you.

I work, too. It's no big deal, just was wondering if you were going to "be" in this thread or not. Apologies for the snarkiness. It's probably best if I scoot on out of this thread.

Instead of snarking and fleeing, try to avoid snarking in the first place. Saves us all some time.

couldn't just accept the apology? It wasn't fleeing, it was recognizing when I probably just need to go away from a thread, leave things alone.
Nevermind then. I had a really incorrect perception of you at first.

I think, actually, I'm just being an ass. I am 3000 miles from home, brainscrewed because I can't sleep in hotels, recovering from 10 hours of meetings that spanned the day, haven't been able to leave this building, and have to get on a goddam plane again tomorrow.
How about I apologize. I'm sorry. You snarked, and I overreacted. I'm sorry.

you so need a travel prescription of Ambien.
And no, I don't work for big Pharma, but they have a great product there.
If not that, at least get yourself some benadryl - 50mg at bedtime should do ya. Of course, you're likely to wake up with a benadryl hangover. That's why I favor the Ambien - most folk don't get a hangover, but they do get a fine night's sleep.
All this I tell you at 5am. I suck as a healthcare provider. Oh, well.

OK, so what *is* this song about? Jim Capaldi, in _Goldmine_ #97, explained that he and actor Michael J. Pollard were in Morocco preparing for a movie that was never actually made: Pollard and I would sit around writing lyrics all day, talking about Bob Dylan and the Band, thinking up ridiculous plots for the movie. Before I left Morocco, Pollard wrote in my book 'The Low Spark of High Heeled Boys.' For me, it summed him up. He had this tremendous rebel attitude. He walked around in his cowboy boots, his leather jacket. At the time he was a heavy little dude. It seemed to sum up all the people of that generation who were just rebels. <...> The 'Low Spark', for me, was the spirit, high-spirited. You know, standing on a street corner. The low rider. The 'Low Spark' meaning that strong undercurrent at the street level.

16. When I was a kid...... |

I used to stay home from school and listen to the FM "AOR" station, WHCN in Hartford, CT.
One day, they played:
"Wind Up," Jethro Tull "Is She Really Going Out With Him?," Joe Jackson "Low Spark of High Heeled Boys," Traffic "Rainy Day Women #12 & 35," Bob Dylan "Jamming," Bob Marley "We Can Be Together," Jeffrson Airplane and "Pictures of Matchstick Men," Status Quo.... in the space of about an hour.
This was in 1983.
Clear Channel sucks.

"Low Spark of High Heeled Boys"
If you see something that looks like a star And it's shooting up out of the ground And your head is spinning from a loud guitar And you just can't escape from the sound
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you We were children once, playing with toys And the thing that you're hearing is only the sound Of the low spark of high heeled boys
The percentage you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest Was the low spark of high heeled boys
If you had just a minute to breathe And they granted you one final wish Would you ask for something like another chance? Or something similar as this?
Don't worry too much, it'll happen to you As sure as your sorrows are joys And the thing that disturbs you is only the sound Of the low spark of high heeled boys
The percent that you're paying is too high priced While you're living beyond all your means And the man in the suit has just bought a new car From the profit he's made on your dreams
But today you just read that the man was shot dead By a gun that didn't make any noise But it wasn't the bullet that laid him to rest Was the low spark of high heeled boys High heeled boys
If I gave you everything that I owned And asked for nothing in return Would you do the same for me as I would for you? Or take me for a ride And strip me of everything including my pride
But spirit is something that no one destroys And the sound that I'm hearing is only the sound Of the low spark of high heeled boys Heeled boys
...
I read "low spark of high heeled boys" as "the dance of life", more or less.
But what do I know.
...
Dude, you need a little AFI.
"Ever and a Day".
lie in the comfort of sweet calamity with nothing left to lose. lie in the darkness, i'm slowly drowned to sleep with nothing left to lose. three tears i've saved for you.
i'd retrace the steps that lead me here but nothing lives behind me. so i lie in this field bathed in the light that loves me, with nothing left to lose. three tears i've saved for you.
will you be my, be my beloved? will you help, help me to get through? will you be my, be my destruction? will you help, help me to be through?
will you be my, be my beloved? will you help, help me to get through? will you be my, be my destruction? will you help, three tears I've saved for you
...
"Through our bleeding we are one."

32. One of my all time favorite songs... |
|
Got me away from the strict Rock and Roll structure and made me look out at other kinds of music...
For this I can thank Jim and Stevie and Chris and of course Dave....
They always were so far away from the mainstream and yet stillmanaged to survive......
Just slipped the disk in and am hearing the bass and paino, now comes the sax, now the bongo's add a little organ and then Little Stevie Windwood.......
Oh man get me some weed.......
