Half Life 2 players - I have a problem...
I downloaded HL2 via the Steam thingy. Now when I try to play any game that I could play before my screen goes blank and my monitor's amber "power save" light comes on. Half Life 2 does the same thing when I try to play it.

I have been talking to some people on the various support forums and other users are seeing similar things.

Anyone know what might cause this?

1. Sounds like a sync problem

HL2 is telling your montor to use a horizontal or vertical sync setting that your monitor can't display.

5. Hardware specs...
P4 2.4 HT, 500MB RAM, GEForce 4 128MB

I agree that it may be a sync problem but this only started with the install of HL2.

I have other games on my computer that I can't play not because of the HL2 install. In other words, prior to me installing HL2 the previously installed games would work...now they do the same thing that HL2 does and that is make the monitor turn off.

2. Question 1
Have you ever got the game to operate?

2: What hardware are you using?

7. No...
It hasn't worked since it installed via Steam.

3. What's your video card?
If it's an older card, it might not support the intense graphics of HL2.

I had this problem with Doom 3, where it caused my graphics card to overheat. And I have a case with 5 fans, including one specifically for the graphics card.

4. Make sure the newest version of DirectX is installed, then install
the latest drivers for your video card.
