Cult band's 'Love Shack' gutted

The band was famous for its quirky wigs and catchy pop tunes A cabin in the US state of Georgia believed to have inspired the party hit Love Shack by cult band the B-52's has burnt down.

Fire officials in Athens-Clarke county are investigating the possibility of arson at the cabin, once inhabited by band member Kate Pierson.

The B-52's were famous in the 1980s for their unusual hairpieces and highly original and catchy pop tunes.

Love Shack, released in 1989, was the band's first top 10 hit.

Several properties in the Athens area have been credited with inspiring the song.
