My Mom's In The Hospital
Nice timing huh? Just in time to ruin her holiday season. I do think she'll be out in the next few days, so should be home on Christmas Eve and Day.

There is something wrong with her ability to shed fluid. She gained 25 pounds in 10 week!. The excess fluid was putting so much pressure on her heart and lungs that her blood O2 level was only 80% of normal!

They have her on Lasix and are basically draining the fluid out of her. She was WAY better this morning than yesterday. Her breathing was less labored and she had a far easier time talking. (Could get the air out and through her voice box.)

Just have my fingers crossed that they'll get the fluid down enough to send her home for the holidays. Now, if they would just figure out what's causing this massive fluid retention.

2. I'll be thinking of you and your mom Prof! It's awful to be in the
hospital at this time of year. The only other thing I have heard on fluid retention is that it can be a sign of congestive heart failure. Please take care and get well wishes to your mom!

Hugs,Laura

8. Funny You Mention That
One doctor says it's CHF, but the cardiologist says no! The kidney function tests are normal, too!

According to both docs, though, fluid retention is causative of CHF. Fluid build-up, caused by something else, mainfests itself as CHF and pneumonia. But, CHF doesn't cause the fluid build-up. It's the other way around.

I told the doctor, "Yeah, i could figure that out myself." (I/m a clever guy and have as much education as those guys, right?) I asked him what the plan was to investigate the root cause of the fluid build-up. He told me he didn't know yet, but would tell me tomorrow. (Meaning today, Firday.) So, i'll run over there about 11am to talk to him.

hope she is home for christmas. how old is she?
it is so scary to be sick these days. i have made a vow myself to take no new drugs. i have been on 3 different drugs in the last 2 years that were removed from the market, or prohibited for the off market uses that they were prescribed for. and 2 more that a similar drug was recalled, but not the one i was on. the * administration- the gift that keeps on taking.
