Is the phrase "hang loose" a reference to male anatomy? |
|
I could be totally reading too much into it. But it just crossed my mind the other day that it might be referring to, well, literally "hanging loose."
Anybody know?

|
jus' buckaloose (juss buck ah loose) Definition: derived from the term of long ago that was used to describe when a kite string snaps - it jus' buckaloose; contemporary usage is simply to just hang loose; be easy; go crazy http://www.e-hawaii.com/fun/pidgin/showTerm.asp?letter=J

because the term has been in the dictionary for decades. From my dictionary I bought in 1959:
hang loose: to remain calm or relaxed
