4. These things usually get better in a couple days |
|
Take in lots of liquids, especially Gatorade if you can. If you are vomitting and nausea, wait about a half hour after vomitting and drink one ounce every 15 minutes. My docotor told me that when I was having trouble keeping even water down. There are prescription anti nausea drugs out there but I don't recommend them. If you want to take something, pepto bismol can be helpful and it probably won't make things worse even if doesn't help much.

I had the stomach flu and took Pepto and then I puked again and it was all pink.
Can't touch Pepto to this day. Still brings back bad memories.

Getting dehydrated only makes you want to throw up more ... and try to take in things with sugar when you can because low blood sugar will do the same.
My daughter was at the hospital twice last February for being dehydrated with the stomach flu. The first time was because she couldn't stop throwing up for 24 hours - couldn't keep ANYTHING down. The other was because they gave her Zofran at the first visit and until she stopped taking them she felt horrible and didn't want to eat/drink that much. When she stopped taking them she was throwing up again (gotta get that bug out of your system or it doesn't stop!) and back at the hospital for being dehydrated ... again. We learned not to give anything to keep her from throwing up!
Anyways, long-winded post shortened: Stay hydrated and eat lots of watery/sugary popsicles!
Hope you feel better soon :).

11. I had it two weeks ago. It was hell. I feel for you. |
|
Mine segued into a wicked head cold a few days later. Double whammy! For the GI-flu symptoms, I drank a lot of Cran-Apple juice and ate saltines. Club soda on ice was good , too (after it fizzed a while). My chills were awful. Long, hot showers helped.

There really is something in the concoction that is good for fighting flu and colds.
Have some hot tea and honey.
Hope you feel better.

Please make sure anyone living with you is washing their hands frequently. Lots of care givers are catching this as it is very contagious.
For everyone: PLEASE REMEMBER TO WASH YOUR HANDS! It's your best defense against these kinds of catchy things.
