My Grandpa just died.
He was in his ninties. I probably won't be able to make it down to Milwaukee for the funeral due to finals.

Here's to you William McDonnell, You may have been a diehard republican since the 1920s, but you were still a very good man. Hope you're with Grandma and Mitchell now.

Sorry Jonathan for your loss. Grandparents are special to their grandchildren, aren't they? Mine have been gone many, many years, but I still have very fond memories, and my eyes still leak thinking of them.

12. Sorry about your grandfather
I lost my grandfather, who was also Republican but a good man, this summer. I know that you go to a larger less personal college than I did, but is there a dean who you could talk to about letting you make up your finals because of the death in your family. I know that at my college msuch things were always honored.

14. Well, my mourning mechanism has kicked in...
When I grieve, I get pissed off, I don't cry. I cussed out one of the female RA's out enforcing intensive quiet hours for finals. One of our floor's CA's is now looking for me.

I think I need another drink...

18. Being a good man is all that's asked. Even if he was a Republican.
Sorry for your loss Jonathan. I hope you got to know William McDonnell, and learn from his long life. I barely knew my granddads, and one of my grandmothers died while I was in Vietnam. I always thought of my grand-parents when the Nitty-Gritty Dirt Band sang Will the Circle Be Unbroken?

I was standing by my window,
On one cold and cloudy day
When I saw that hearse come rolling
For to carry my mother away

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I said to that undertaker
Undertaker please drive slow
For this lady you are carrying
Lord, I hate to see here go

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Oh, I followed close behind her
Tried to hold up and be brave
But I could not hide my sorrow
When they laid her in the grave

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

I went back home, my home was lonesome
Missed my mother, she was gone
All of my brothers, sisters crying
What a home so sad and lone

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

We sang the songs of childhood
Hymns of faith that made us strong
Ones that mother maybelle taught us
Hear the angels sing along

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

Will the circle be unbroken
By and by, lord, by and by
There’s a better home a-waiting
In the sky, lord, in the sky

They should be able to do that.

As important as finals are, family is more important.

28. I'm sorry about your Mom
That is really tough. I lost my dad 20 years ago, though I still have my mother. My friend who'd lost her mom said to me at the time "It's like a sad club." I always remembered that.

27. I'm sorry :(
That's too bad you can't make it to the funeral. My grandma was one of the persons I was closest to in my life. She was like a second mother to me. When she died this year, her the funeral really brought some closure to things, so I wish you coulda made it.

Hey, we all love you.

One thing you can hold onto is that a grandparent's love helps form you and stays with you, like a loving presence, even after they go.
