I need some help with an on-line game.
I keep hearing about this game called "Everquest."

I'd like to get started, but am totally confused as to how to get started in it.

1. Ever-Crack
Friends don't let friends play MMORPG.

However, I'm not your friend so enjoy the thrill until the addiction makes you realize you just spent 72 hours straight online and blew $4,500 on eBay for a better sword.

You need to buy it, and then subscribe to the service.

2. Go straight to Everquest II
the original is dying.

Personally, I prefer City of Heroes. But no accounting for taste.

3. Words of Warning/Suggestions regarding MMORPGs
I've played a few so I feel the need to warn you that MMORPGs (Massively Multiplayer Online RPGs) aren't for everyone -- in most cases you can even drop the "RPG" part -- there is usually very little actual roleplaying going on.

However, if you do want to get a little taste of the MMORPG experience you might want to look into a different one -- while Everquest is one of the most well known MMORPGs out there, it is outdated. A couple of the more recent and recognized MMORPGs include "Star Wars Galaxies" and "World of Warcraft."

You will need to buy the actual boxed game at the store. After the install process, you'll be asked to register an account with the publisher of the game -- this runs anywhere from $10 to $20 a month for unlimited access to the game world.

Though I haven't tried it, I'd recommend taking a look at World of Warcraft. It's getting a lot of good reviews and Gamespot.com has gone so far as to call it the one great defining MMORPG everyone has been waiting for.

Good hunting! :)
