My Auntie Joyce has passed away...
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 10:08 AM by MrsGrumpy

She was 58. My mom's only sister. The baby of the family. She had three boys, and always longed for a girl. When I was born, my mother made her my Godmother. Every Christmas there was something special from just her to me. She adored my uncle; woke up with him every morning and sent him off to work with coffee and a lunch. So many of my mothering skills I learned from her. Yesterday I got a Christmas card from her. Yesterday, I sent a Christmas card to her wishing we could all be together for Christmas. She told me by phone on Monday that she wasn't feeling very well. My uncle begged her to go to the doctor. My grandmother lost my grandfather on Christmas 3 years ago...now she lost her baby girl. I have lost my only Auntie.

To Auntie Joyce :toast: Thank you for all you were to me.

46. **The autopsy results are in. It was lung cancer (in both lungs) and it
had spread to her liver. Nobody knew. How could she have gone through such pain in silence? My family is thinking that she knew. I am just hurting so bad to think that she suffered like that.

72. A suggestion:
This helped me when my grandma passed in the summer of 2003.

If this doesn't creep you out, I suggest you leave a small gift/present that your auntie gave you or something that reminds you of your auntie in the casket.

I'm a sports writer for a newspaper here in CT and I left a few of my articles in my grandma's casket. My grandma had Parkinson's and really suffered in the last few years but she always made sure that my grandpa went out and bought the newspaper to see if I had any stories in. I know she was proud of the success I had at my job.

This may help. The mourning process is never an easy one but anything that can help you deal with your loss is a step.

Take care
-Will

65. That is unbelievable
Clearly she was an incredibly strong woman. Perhaps it spread so quickly that she really didn't feel ill for too long. I will believe that was so, and that any suffering was brief.

71. I don't know how she did it. I just saw her after Thanksgiving when we
went to WI. I am trying to remember if she acted differently. She was quiet but she's quiet lots of times. I don't know if perhaps they both knew and wanted it this way. I just hurt so much for my uncle. :(

88. We have a tiny family. She was my mom's only sister, and a close
friend. I'll miss our morning chats. Thanks

90. Thank you so much, buddhamama. She had been a little "off" these
past few weeks, and understand in hindsight why. Thanks again.

80. What a terrible shock!
Sudden death-- at least it seemed so to you, though perhaps she knew-- and of someone you loved so much-- is devastating. I know-- my dad died suddenly, in his sleep.

She sounds like an amazing person and you were very lucky to have her in your life-- and you've passed that love onto your kids--so it does survive.

Keep open, too-- maybe if there's something after this she'll give you a sign.

And let yourself cry, rage, laugh, whatever comes up-- the grief comes in waves, I've found-- and you just have to go through it.

Love and Hugs to you and your family-

92. Thank you latebloomer. I spoke with my uncle tonight, and he said
he knew nothing. I hurt for him. She kept saying "sinus trouble" for her breathing problems and refused to see a doctor. I wish we all could have seen this for what it was.

82. I am so sorry to hear of your loss...Aunts and Uncles are an important
part of our lives. I know I learned much from mine over the years; and as they left, I could feel the loss because of all the time we ahd together was to be no more.

I was fortunate to have family that has always been close. My Aunts and Uncles filled me in on things about my family my parents tried to keep from me. War stories, break ups, get-togethers, and a history as to why I am who I am.

I can only offer you my condolences, and know that you remember her w/love and respect; the good times, so to speak...O8)

 to all of you who will recall her w/warmth and love...:)

94. I only have/had my Auntie (mom's sister) and my uncle (Dad's brother) my
Dad's other brother passed away in '88. We were close because of it. She was another mother figure to me, a little piece of me left with her today. Thanks so much.
