That boy had soul, even if he had to borrow it, as most of us white boys do.

2. I think he means Stevie Ray Vaughan
I certainly hope so, anyway. :)

3. Stevie Ray Vaughn. Know him
by the cheezie 'SRV' on the pickguard of his beat-to-hell Strat.

4. one of the very best
His duet album with Albert King should lay that crap to rest. When masters like Albert King, Albert Collins, B.B. King, and so many more sing your praises, you are no poser.

Saw SRV back in '85, and I can "Testify" that he was overflowing with soul. To soul.

5. I was unaware
that this was even an issue. If I hadn't been financially wiped out from seeing the Allman Brothers the week before SRV died I would've been at that show as well. A lot of my friends were there, II remeber when I heard the news my reaction was a flat out "no he didn't." It turns out I was wrong.

SRV RIP

6. Oh, he had plenty of soul.
But I don't care for some of his work, such as "House is Rockin'". That comes off as a little soul-less to some. I prefer his more straighforward blues and jazz work.

I saw him in 1983 because he had played on Bowie's "China Girl" album. I had no idea what I was getting into, but it was FANTASTIC.

9. That's when "Live At The El Mocambo" was taped
Pretty much anything live on video or CD is worth a shot. No studio strictures, and feeding off audience energy.

We were lucky to see him in smaller club venues.

10. I actually saw him during San Antonio Fiesta.
They had a multi-stage music festival called La Semana Alegre. Stevie was tucked on one of the smaller stages while Foghat or someone similarly shitty was on the main stage. By the end of the night, the crowd at Stevie's stage was packed like sardines. It was incredible!

11. sorry, but it's true
Stevie was OK but no Guitar God. I saw him with Lonnie Mack as the warmup and Lonnie was better.

He couldn't carry Johnny Winter's jock strap. Now there's one extremely white boy with the blues.

Hell, it was getting cold in here anyway.

12. Remember "Second Winter"? The three-sided
double album?

"Serve Me Right to Suffer" and "Highway 69" were milestones in my life as a blues fan.

14. Why the contest?
You don't ever see guys like Robert Cray, Eric Clapton, Buddy Guy, BB King etc all going around saying "I'm a better bluesman than you" They all respect the hell out of each other and thats the way it should be.
