Clinton Portis and Sean Taylor fined $10000 a piece for wearing Red Socks
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 04:34 PM by Champ
ASHBURN, Va. (AP) - Washington Redskins running back Clinton Portis and safety Sean Taylor had their fines for wearing red socks doubled this week to $10,000.

Portis and Taylor were fined $5,000 apiece last week for wearing red socks instead of the standard white in the Redskins' victory over the New York Giants. They wore them again in Sunday's game against Philadelphia, and on Friday the league punished each with a $10,000 fines for violating the uniform rules.

Portis harshly criticized the fines earlier this week.

"I think that is a stupid fine for the simple fact that they want everybody to be the same," Portis said Wednesday. "This is an individual game, you know. That is the thing that has the league being the No. 1 sport, because different personalities come together as one and people enjoyed that."

Portis was unsure if he would wear the red socks again in Saturday's game at San Francisco.

"I've got to come up with some kind of scheme to find a way to get out of it," he said.

1. They pay you millions and ask you to wear white socks, WEAR THE SOCKS.
Oh for the love of pete.

I wish someone was paying me in the millions to play a GAME.

But nooooo, he wants to be different.... I wish I had an extra 5 grand to piss away because I felt like wearing different color socks.

:grr:

7. Hey dipshit
It's called UNIFORM. That means everyone looks alike. If you don't like it, quit and go to work where you don't have to wear a uniform.

3. This is not breaking my heart!
Portis is wrong. Football is not an individual game.

9. Portis was never the best in the game
That's ridiculous. Where do you get that? He's never even led the league in rushing yards for a season. There are any number of running backs who are better than Portis.

13. He was against the Chiefs that day

He rushed for over 200 yards and 5 TDs, he hoisted the belt because he felt like he out dueled Holmes for best back in the league. Those were his quotes, I always felt LT was better and is still the best overall back in the league. I'll name a few who are better, Jamal Lewis, Corey Dillon, LT, and Chris Brown has been playing well with far less carries.

ON EDIT: Last year Clinton Portis led the league in YPC, 5.5, He played in 13 games.

on edit: In my opinion, if Portis wants to fork over 10K each time he wears Red Socks, let him wear it. Atleast the socks don't clash with the 'Skins uniform.

10. The NFL is anal-retentive
Someone wore a some sort of tribute sticker on his helmet once and got a similar fine. You'd think it was the freaking Marines! :eyes:
