Low brow snax
Snax that you like to make for yourself but cannot admit you like to anyone outside your home.

I like potted meats on those little crackers. (make fine hor d'oeuvres)

Melted velveeta on nachos.

3. Instead of velveeta, I'll
finely dice some onion and a little jalapeno (if I have any) and then use Colby Jack cheese. Velveeta's fine but it always leaves my nacho's mooshy and I personally like my nacho's to be crispy. Of course, there's nothing wrong at all with mooshy if that's what you happen to like. I do like making the velveeta-rotel dip but it doesn't leave my chips mooshy.

No one in my family knows what my guilty snacks are since I only eat them when I'm by myself.

using peanut butter as a dip for my triscuits.

Or eating a whole jar of cocktail onions washed down with a coke.

Oh, and there's also my secret, expensive snack...greek olives, not the black one's or the green one's but the purply-bruised looking one's that have kind of a winey taste to them. For the life of me, I can't remember their name but, trust me, I know what aisle they're on at the grocery store and exactly how much they cost last Tuesday when I bought me a jar. I ate the whole jar all by myself and didn't share with anyone!

9. Peanut butter and Triscuits!
That is my "lunch in front of the computer" snack of aaallllll time. I get the massive can of peanut butter (the one that says it's good for schools and day cares--the econo-size baby) and my "reduced-fat" Triscuits, and I'm gone.

One of my favorite foods which I really can't share with too many people is Spamghetti. I cube up Spam and dice a little onion and stir it into cooked spaghetti with a mess of Parmesan cheese and a couple eggs. It cooks into this big greasy, starchy brick of comfort-foodieness, and tastes really good with Alfredo sauce. But when I explained it my Italian hubby, he kind of grimaced.

And the olives--Kalamatas, maybe?

10. Yep, those are the one's. Kalamata olives! As far as spam
I never had spam in my life until I was in my 30's and my (then) husband bought a can home. He told me I'd love it. He cut long slivers and threw them into a frying pan, frying them until they were crispy. I tried, I really, really did but I just couldn't find a way to like it. I tried telling myself it was kind of like crispy bacon or ham but even that didn't work.

It's funny, I don't mind fixing spam for other people anyway they want it cooked, I just can't eat it.

8. Speaking of Velveeta----Here's the Velveeta Fudge!
Edited on Sat Dec-18-04 09:22 PM by The empressof all
Velveeta Fudge

1/2 lb. Velvetta cheese

1/2 lb. margarine

Melt cheese and margarine in Micro Wave ( not the highest setting). Make sure it is melted...

SIFT:

2 lbs. powered sugar

1/2 Cup Cocoa powder

Pour the cheese/margarine over the sifted ingredients and stir, stir, stir

ADD:

1 Tbs. Vanilla

1 Cup walnuts...I add more nuts

POUR: onto greased cookie sheet and cool. Cut into squares and freeze!

Keeps for months -- um um good

(on edit---sorry I attached this to the wrong message--I was overcome with excitement)

12. That sounds kind of interesting. Is it really that good?
I can see where the Velveeta would help keep it moist. Does it make the fudge have a kind of cheesy taste?

25. believe it or not it's good
It's smooth and creamy. The cheese also cuts the sweetness a bit which I think is good. You don't taste the cheese at all

My kid loves it. My husband thinks it's good but makes the fudge too creamy.

19. I always knew I was lowbrow, but this just nails it.
There's a Lot of this food that is sounding pretty tasty to me. Fried Bologna = sandwich worthy of the gods. Velveeta is the **BEST** of the lowbrow cheeses, and how could anybody turn up their nose at a box of Mac n Cheese with a can of tuna in it?

I'm also partial to the Underwood Chicken spread on toast. Also, the Underwood Deviled Ham makes a really good dip if you mix it with some minced onion and some Miracle Whip. (Gotta have Miracle Whip or it is just not a finished product. That fancy Mayonnaise stuff just won't get it.)

20. Seems to be a salt theme goin' on here.
Cheap vanilla ice cream with crumpled-up saltine crackers. Or with chow mein noodles out of the bag, topped with Log Cabin syrup. Or potato chips. MMMMMMMM-mmmmm.

Lance's cracker products are also good. About 50c a pack at most Quik-E-Marts. The cheez crackers with peanut butter are particularly good.

Vinegar-soaked green onions were introduced to us by our Texas-born neighbors. But you better like 'em, 'cause you'll be tasting 'em for hours.

My lovely wife enjoys the sardines. Straight, no chaser.

When we're traveling, Combos are the lowbrow snack of choice. But never "cracker" style - always "pretzel" style.

PS to the person who noshes on cat food (serious?) - Paul Newman now makes canned dog food.

23. saltines or triscuit with cojack cheese on top, run them under the
little broiler in my toaster oven...
eat them with dill pickles OR jalapeno peppers, depending on my mood

also like peanut butter and grape jelly mixed up together, then spread on the crackers, especially good with vegetable soup

when I have a sore throat, I like to freeze a coke until it is slushy then drink it ..feels so good.

vinegar salt potato chips

and another vote for cream cheese and olives together.
