Pioneer has a clearance model at Best Buy. $104.99 for a beige model, with a $30 rebate. It's up to 16x and is compatible with ALL DVD -/+ formats, including the new dual-layer format. :9

3. Internal... the rebate sale ends on 12/31... For a net savings of $60, |
|
it's a good deal. (retail price was $129, as I recall... clearance for $104, with $30 rebate that ends on 12/31.)

by any chance do you know if they have drivers for any other OSs besides winBlows and Mac? I'm thinking about leaving the dark side next year, but I would like a DVD burner, too.

5. OS-dependent. Linux supports many products out of the box and comes with |
|
the necessary burning software.
(speaking of, the Pioneer drive comes with a surprisingly nice suite of Windows-based applciations for disc burning/menu creation. I haven't used any of them yet, but none of them appear to be limited edition/low-end rubbish)
In fact, as I know it and I might be wrong, if the burning app doesn't find its own built-in driver for the DVD+/- Drive in question, it will resort to a generic driver and hope it works.
I've never had a problem burning on Linux and the newest distros (SuSE 9.2, Fedora 3) would definitely have the most up-to-date support.
