Ok, i dont' drink, i've never really drank alcohol to any degree.. freak?? |
|
Just got back from the office xmas party.. i usually avoid them and leave early but i did stay later than i normally do.
Is it possible for people to have fun without alcohol and drugs?
I think it'd be easier if i didn't give a rats ass if i killed someone driving home drunk and all that.. but i .. well i guess i'll never get it.

1. I did it until I was 21-- drinking makes no sense at all, drugs make less. |

And I drink socially now, two to three drinks at a time is my limit.
Can't explain it, which I suppose makes me slightly hypocritical. So be it.
I had a perfectly good time without drinking, never tried drugs.

I wish I had all that money back. What an utter waste.

When I was in college I didn't drink often but when I did I drank quite a lot and enjoyed it very much. I also used marijuana, but to a lesser degree. Marijuana never seemed to affect me as much as it did my friends.
These days I do neither (I think I had two glasses of wine about 6 months ago) and don't miss either one. Well, maybe marijuana a little but then I have health issues which I believe marijuana would help with.
I think some people are just wired differently from other people and don't have the inclination to alter their reality as much as other people might. The converse are those people who seem to be genetically predisposed to substance abuse.
Of course, some of us live in an altered reality already without the booze or drugs. :-)
It may be a tautology but, you are you. If you enjoy alcohol or drugs that's cool and if you don't, well, that's cool too. The only thing that isn't cool is stepping on someone else's right to the pursuit of happiness.

5. I've never been that excited about alcohol, except to wash down pills. |
|
And I only took pills for a brief period of time. As soon as I realized that I was becoming addicted, I quit, and haven't done any pills since. I'd always been negative on pills, and excessive drinking, so it's funny that I let it creep up on me. Whenever some celeb is engaging in bizarre behavior, it's usually because of pills washed down with booze. Now I'm back to just smoking herb, and drinking very moderate amounts of alcohol. Pill heads washing down their pills with booze are more common than most people realize.

6. Show me where it's written that a person has to consume alcohol. |
|
It's not. However, it is a law that one can't drink and drive.
Your not a freak, it's just your personal choice.
About having fun and not drinking, I'm going to assume you mean in a situation where others are drinking. Since I have been designated driver more times then anyone in my group I can say, yes, it's possible to have fun without drinking. I like to sit back and watch everyone get messed up on those nights. It can be pretty comical.

7. I cannot tolerate the stuff. |
|
I used to drink lightly when I was in college but by the time I was 25 I hardly drank at all. I have what I call the 2 drink maximum; after the second drink I'm sick. As a result it's far easier to not drink at all.
The weird thing is that I'm fascinated by the brewing and winemaking processes; probably comes from my love of cooking. What I want to know is how do non-drinkers hook up? I'm single after a 10 year relationship and I don't have a clue.

It is possible to have fun without alcohol and drugs.
It's also possible to have fun with them.
Maybe you can help drive people home if they have too much?

then so am I. My parents don't drink, I don't drink, and a lot of the people that I know don't drink.
One of my friends just turned thirty, and I noticed that most of the people at the party were drinking Kool-Aid or soda. We must be getting old. ;)

Plus, I like you even more, knowing you won't post an asinine "I'm drunk! Look at me!" thread on DU. People have been drinking to excess since the beginning of the species, and it's nothing new or special.
And you didn't ask us to ask you anything, another bonus. :-)

13. One of my hobbies is making beer. |
|
But I always end up giving 75% of it away, because I don't drink that much beer anymore. Sort of a bummer, because I really enjoy experimenting and coming up with new recipes-- each "experiment" produces 5-6 gallons of beer, though.
Hell, I should host a DU party... I think my problem would be solved

You're not a freak. I don't usually drink and I am perfectly capable of having fun w/o drinking. I'm also not afraid of making an ass of myself so that adds to the fun factor.

and now I do. Can't say I notice a difference one way or the other as far as the "fun" factor goes. I have noticed however, that I can forget about George and the dismal state of the planet more easily after some single malt scotch... BHN
