Twenty below zero right now in International Falls, Minn. |
|
I can't even imagine that. I believe motor oil freezes at around that temp. Damn that's cold. Link: http://weather.noaa.gov/weather/current/KINL.html

1. Hahaha ... I remember driving through MN and ND for the first time ... |
|
in the winter. We were moving West, in December, and had to cross those states. We couldn't figure out what the heck the plugs were hanging out of the fronts of the cars! My brother and I (teenagers at the time) thought maybe they were some sort of electric cars :P. We sure did figure it out when we moved to MT and my car wouldn't start after just one of many cold mornings!

3. About 10 years ago, the U.S. government was giving away land |

FREE in International Falls, Minnesota. The requirement was that you build your primary residence there, and stay at least 10 years.

4. Eight Below here at Lake Minnebelle MN |
|
The ice is groaning and the wind slicks across the lake. The fire is banked, Leigh Kammand/Jazz Image on the box, Alice Babbs sending out the call. We're packed and off to NYC in the morning. Lovely.

6. St.Paul here....wind chill of -23. |
|
it is rather unpleasant outdoors. only -3 by temp only, but there's a 15-mph wind out of the northwest that makes it seem nasty.
you may laugh at -20, but it'll get a lot worse than that before winter is through.
oddly, there is no snow. lakes are nothing but clear, smooth ice from shore to shore. skaters having a ball.

How do you guys deal with that now. I was out shopping today and I had to leave my jacket in the car it was so warm. We get an inch or two of snow overnight, and that'll easily shutdown the schools, even though the snow's gone by noon.
Ah, I love my desert.

I shudder at the thought. The potty seat in winter is bad enough for me and my house stays no cooler than 68 degrees.

11. Funny you should mention the 'snot-freezes' thing. |
|
My maternal grandmother was from Germany and her family immigrated to Minnesota. She and my great uncle used to tell me frozen snot horror stories. Also, having to dig out of the house through the snow stories. When they became adults they both moved to Southern California.
