Poll question: Do You Have A Christmas Tree?
I haven't had a tree since I was a little boy... My mother was Jewish and my dad was gentile but our household was secular... We believed in God but religion wasn't the focal point of our family life... My mom used to put up a tree and take me to Santa ...

However my girlfriend who is visiting from L A, is from the Phillipines and is a traditionalist when it comes to Christmas so I put up a tree for her...

It does look kind of neat with all the presents and lights and stuff

1. I just couldn't get into it this year
Plus this will be my new puppy and new kitty's first Xmas.

I don't think the tree would last long.

2. For the kid's sake... twinkling lights...
Plus, my grandma painted decorations for everyone every year, so I really want to display them since this is the first Christmas since she passed-away in March.

3. I have never had a tree in my house
Mother had one when I was a kid, and somehow I felt that it wasn't fair to the poor tree. So I've never had a tree, and don't plan to have one.

12. Both of mine are artificial.
The smaller one belonged to my parents, and they gave it to me when I got my first apartment 20 years ago.

It has seen a lot of Christmases. :)

5. Christmas trees are pagen - NOT Christian....
They were originally brought into the home and decorated to celebrate the Winter Solstice.

6. I got one
but it is still in the box. It's one of those aluminum trees from the 1960's, it's cheesy but actually quite beautiful when decorated. Unfortunately this year I am not in the mood, I took it and decorations out of the garage but can't get up the energy or spirit to put them up. :-(

30. My Mom had an Aluminum tree with red bulbs every year
The kids decorated our own and she was so frustrated with our attempts she had her own. I hated that Aluminum tree. I now wish I had it. :-)

I'm upset too about stealing another election but I refuse to let that end my traditions. I enjoy the tree and lights.

7. We have two. A big one in the front room window and a medium-sized one
in the living room. Both are festive and covered in ornaments old and new (the oldest ornament is from my first Christmas in 1966). The children love them. I like to sit in the quiet, late at night, and just enjoy the peacefulness and the glow of the lights.

11. Well, I have the better part of one left.
Two of my cats have decided that climbing the Christmas tree is the next best thing to being an outdoor kitty. The tree has taken some damage from their, 'cool new game'. :eyes:

13. Have a 4 ft one
that sits on a table in the front window. I had planned to do more outdoor decorating this year, but wound up just not in the mood. We live in a big time decorating area, with a nightly looky-loo traffic jam. Sadly, last night there was an accident. The horse pulling a carriage full of people bolted into a busy street and was hit by a couple of cars. None of the people were hurt but the horse had to be put down.:-(

16. We haven't had one as adults
As I said in an earlier thread, I seem to have a difficult time getting my act together at Christmas since I haven't depended on my parents to initiate everything.
We probably won't have one until we get a bigger house which we own, we clean our house regularly enough that any mess doesn't take away from the decorations, and we have children, family over for the holidays, or people who visit us regularly during the holidays.

17. Yes, we have a tree
but it is a Silver Aluminum with a revolving tree stand and a color wheel, straight out of the 1950's.

Artificial, w/ one of those holders that revolves the tree around in a circle. My wife is in charge of decorating it, and the kitty loves sleeping under the branches..

21. We haven't in several years
My parents put up a tree when my sister and I were young. Being that we weren't Christian, I guess they didn't want us to feel left out.

Personally I enjoyed it. I wouldn't mind putting one up again. I don't really see a Christmas tree as very Christian anyways. Doesn't it have pagan roots anyways?

No tree to buy, put up, trim, sweep up from, keep the cats out of, undecorate, take down, clean up from, dispose of. I like it a lot.
