1. My policy is the following.
If you don't know a person well enough to know which holidays he/she observes, then you don't know them well enough to sincerely wish them a happy (Fill in the blank)

7. Is it "feets" of strenght, or "feats"?
On Seinfeld it was oral/aural, so you couldn't tell.
Could they have really meant kick-boxing, a la that Belgian guy whose name esacpes me right now?

14. My pastor's family had a similar Slovak-Lutheran tradition
His father was a pastor and one of the customs carried over by his grandfather was that before going to church on Christmas Eve members of the family had to confess to each-other how they had wronged each other over the previous year and they would forgive one another. It was kind of like a reverse "airing of grievances"

18. Well apologizing in a self serving manner was forbidden
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 08:26 PM by JVS
none of that "I'm sorry that you were such an idiot that I had to kick your ass" stuff, just the "I have failed to be as good a brother/son/father as I should have been, in particular I regret having done (insert regretted action here)"

19. A joke to us outsiders, but the manner in which it was conducted...
indicates a holiday of a serious nature, not a celebration

24. Festivus is an actual (sort of) holiday and has been around for
many years according to this weekend's New York Times.

http://www.nytimes.com/2004/12/19/fashion/19FEST.html

It has taken on a life of its own since it was on Seinfeld.

16. I'm Gonna Start Saying "Homo-Christmas" and "Queer-Tidings"
I can be just as in-your-face as these over-the-top activist zealots are. Christian chauvinism just irks the hell out of me.
