Does Christian death metal strike anyone else as pointless? |
|
Edited on Sun Dec-19-04 09:27 PM by ZombieNixon
My friend has this CD of a black metal band that sound almost exactly like Dimmu Borgir (popular Norwegian black metal band). He says they're devout Christians. I have to take his word for it, b/c I can't for the life of me make out what their saying. If you want to promulgate religiosity through music, doesn't black metal make a bad genre for it?
What are your thoughts?

1. Practically any form can be imbued with any content. |
|
Maybe the Christian black metallists (damn near a contradiction, but oh well) fancy their work a subversion of a Satanic form?

2. sounds perfect to me these days... |

Seems for many, Christianity is all about death and rapture these days... not sure about the Norwegian angle. Didn't the whole cult of the rapture come from Scandinavian "preachers" way back when?

3. So, what's next? Islamic speed metal? |
|
Hey, why not? The comeback possibilities for Cat Stevens would be limitless! :eyes:

5. How about Trouble? They were a Christian doom metal band. |
|
They sounded every bit like Black Sabbath, but with religious overtones in their lyrics, and they managed to rock.

7. Yes, but could you figure out the lyrics |
|
without consulting the insert. There's no rule saying religious bands can't rock, but if they're doing it to convert people, death metal may not be the best way to go.

8. Yeah, I see your point. |

Once you travel down the mime makeup and quasi-Viking/Nazi subject matter path, you're pretty much screwed anyway!

Sorry, OT, but had to say it.

10. Meh, it's about as pointless as regular death metal. |
|
Which I consider quite pointless.

that if music is supposed to be you expressing your feelings, thoughts, ideas, opinions, etc. in the way that you see fit, then what's wrong with it?
there's a lot of christian hardcore out there...
you don't need to be a satanist to like heavy music
this is a pretty pointless thread
