Question about nitrous in vehicles
I know street racers love Nox, but is there any practical use for Nox in "average Joe" cars? Does it improve gas mileage? Does it provide a boost for 4-cyl engines? Or is it best left to street racers?

1. Best left to street racers.
It's a good way to have an explosion under your hood, and it is tough on just about every part of the car, when you push that button.

Cheap horsepower, but...

Wanna make your car more efficient? Get one of this electronic ignition kits that fire with a multiple spark. More efficient burning of the fuel. Add to that new plugs, new plug wires, new distro cap and a K&N air filter for better airflow and your car will run better and get better mileage.

2. only for the racers
It's NOS by the way, which is actually incorrect anyway because NOS is really a brand name not what it actually is. Nitrous works becuase it is much more combustable than air, giving a short boost when shot in (usually only 5-10 seconds at the very max). I'm in a car club and one of my friends has it in his car, It's very fun to use but it's hell on your engine, you need to have reinforced engine parts to use it safely. You can use it on any cylinder car.

3. Performance booster for racers
brings oxygen into the combustion chamber resulting in more forceful ignition of fuel.
Too expensive to be of any use in daily driving. Not conducive to long engine life

4. Short Answer NO!
Can it boost a cars output power by allowing more fuel to be burnt? Yes. But it's expensive, doesn't save you any gas, and the average motor can only handle very low levels of Nitrous.

You should leave this to the Drag Racers.

5. N2O? No.
Practical use? No.
Improve gas mileage? No.
Boost for a 4 cyl? Sure. 50-75 horsepower "safely" or more on a built engine.
Best left to TRACK racers. Letting some kid with a 120 horsepower Civic push a button at full-throttle and get 60% more horsepower is a bad idea. Likely the little crap-weasel doesn't know how to drive in traffic strapped to what might as well be a four wheeled molotov cocktail. Likewise, a 350 horsepower Mustang really doesn't need an instant 500 horsepower engine on street tires.

I'm not playing holier than thou. I used to street race my Grand National in the early 90's. Saw more than my share. Glad I lived through it.

6. Like a huge hit of Speed for your engine.
Gives it the ability to kick any car on the road's ass...

For a little while, anyway, until things inside the engine start cracking and bending.

Think "Keith Richards"...
