Gift suggestions?
I know this is an odd request, but I'm really having some trouble deciding what I should buy my father for Christmas. The thing that makes this such a hard decision is my father's failing health. He has cancer and is not expected to live past January. So I'm trying to think of something I could give him that won't be stupid or depressing. Any ideas? He spends most of his days in bed, never reads anymore, has very little appetite. He is a WWII army vet, having served on Utah Beach, Battle of the Bulge, liberation of Paris. I was thinking some sort of army trinket or something like that, but wouldn't know where to look.

1. I had the same situation
with my sister in law two years ago. I gave her a photo album for her to look through. She seemed to love it. Sorry about your dad. I lost mine in August.

2. Maybe this sounds corny but
If he's not expected to live much longer, what about a letter to him telling him how he's influenced your life, what you've learned from him, the good memories you have, etc.

I once did that spontaneously for my dad one year and he has always said it's the best gift he ever got.

3. Great idea. Thanks.
Now, the trick will be reading it to him without falling to pieces.

4. Spend time with him?
I know that is what my dad would want.

5. Perhaps movies on DVD or something of the sort?
It's something that would help him pass the time, he can use it repeatedly, and it can help take his mind off of things.

6. Everytime I see a movie on DVD that either parent would like ...
I buy it. I have 4 DVD's for them so far for Christmas. Good idea.
