But after we decorated it, the Charlie Brown effect kicked in, and right now Huck is curled up in the chair beside it. My daughter put a couple of presents under it for other people.

Sometimes people make fun of faith. But faith has kept people together during the most desperate of times. As long as they don't abuse other people in the process, and as long as they help others, I can't help but think it's a very good thing.
It's when they abuse themselves and others in the name of government that things get nasty.

Is what Christmas is supposed to be about, eh?
Here's my short take on the Christ, if you are so inclined to listen.
He came here to show us that we can overcome anything. His message of "Love Thy Neighbor" was, and is, the most profound and important message ever delivered to the human race.
Taking heed of that message has led man to work with others instead of fighting, and has resulted in the creation of the many good things which we use to make our lives easier. Things like electricity, automobiles and even this computer, came about only through the co-operation of men.
It took damn near two thousand years to rise this far, but here we are. Let us celebrate! Merry Christmas!

55. just don't know exactly why this was posted in GD politics |
|
so excuse me for responding to this thinking it was more than an innocent greeting thread. Why should the rules be bent for some and not for others? Why are politically oriented threads being locked for being disruptive (which they may be, but at least the sibject matter is relevant) and this one stays here? Either it IS political, and therefore I have a right to respond to it with skepticism, or it ISN'T political and is merely an Xmas greeting, in which xase it doesn't belong here and should go into the Lounge. Clear enough for you?

But I'll gladly excuse fallacious logic in this case. I've already told you it was not intended as flamebait; I didn't even know about the threads in GD until you mentioned them.
Skepticism is healthy. Undue suspicion is not, really. It's such a waste of time!

to have to wade through your irrelevant post when it should have been posted in the lounge in the first place. I'm still waiting for you to tell me exactly WHY this is GD: Politics material. What's really a waste of time is having to argue this because you couldn't put your exclusivist pro-christian "greeting thread" in the appropriate forum.

I don't condone bashing of anyone. I have never bashed christians or their religious beliefs on this board. I merely question why some feel as if their beliefs should be accepted without question or reaction by everyone. If I were to start a thread called "Have a beautiful day all you non-Jewish straight white people" I would rightly expect to get flamed. I enjoy some aspects of Christmas. I would like everyone to enjoy the holidays as s/he sees fit, but if you say "god bless you" to me, expect me to let YOU know that I don't subscribe to your belief system. I do, however, respect it, so don't label me as a crhistian basher.
