Saw "Collateral" last night... |

It was alright...better than average, considering the garbage Hollywood turns out nowadays. I guess the best thing about it was watching the relationship between Cruise's and Foxx' characters- I like those kinds of movies, where you can compare and contrast characters and shit like that. There was a good action sequence, too, toward the end, in a club. Some pretty interesting dialogue, spread throughout.
But the end was pretty predictable, and the acting wasn't superb. Foxx was- well, he was believable, just not that great. Same for Cruise. The story was definitely unremarkable.
I'd give it about a 6 or 6 1/2, between one to ten. I'm probably going to watch it again tonight with my girlfriend, though, if that says anything. It's at least interesting enough to do that.
On edit: Cruise's best contribution was probably during the action sequences. He's getting pretty good at them.

1. Oh, I disagree...Foxx and Cruise were outstanding... |
|
Foxx will probably get two Oscar nods this year--one for Best Actor for Ray, the other for Supporting for this movie. Cruise managed to step outside himself to become someone other than Tom Cruise--a difficult feat, considering his mediocre skills.
I'd give it an 8 at least, maybe 8.5.

2. I liked Foxx's scene when he was posing as Cruise's character |
|
inside that club...interesting little evolution, there, great dialogue.
I thought overall Cruise was better than Foxx...Foxx seemed to be trying to hard to play a weakling in some parts. His character just didn't have enough depth, visibly and otherwise, even with his evolution. Something was just missing there.
Cruise was just totally without emotion- sociopathic, which I guess is what they were going for. Still, there just wasn't enough there, though....although I'll give him that it certainly was DIFFERENT than the usual Cruise...didn't see the typical Cruise facial ticks.
Like I said, I'll be watching it again tonight. Maybe I'll get more out of it.

I thought it sucked ass. Over-stylized, predictible, falsely ominous junk. It had about as much depth as an episode of Miami Vice. Oh, and the soundtrack was soooo bad. Again, strains of that anonymous neo-'80s music that NO ONE in the real world listens to, except for unhip guys who write soundtrack scores--probably the same guys who wrote the music for Miami Vice.
Oh yeah, the casting sucked, too. Carboard cutouts surrounding Cruise and Foxx.
Sorry, but I was pissed that I wasted an evening on this.

4. Nah, I wouldn't go so far as to say |
|
that it "sucked ass," because I did find some redeeming qualities in it. Just the relationship of the two main characters was enough to make it interesting, at least, for me.

when Cruise shot up the guys who stole his brief case.
I like Cruise and Foxx, but I just thought this movie was bad.

6. I thought Foxx was realy good in it |
|
and I hope he also gets 2 Oscar nods.
I also thought Cruise and Jada Pinkett-Smith were very good.
I too thought the club action scene was very well done.
Overall, it wasn't as action packed as I thought it would be but I really enjoyed it.
Mann did a great job of getting "me" apart of the film. I liked how we followed these two people around in the cab and how we got to go along "for the ride" as Cruise hunted down the characters on the list.

7. It wasn't action-packed because it wasn't an action movie |
|
Michael Mann said as much in the making-of documentary on the DVD. His focus was on the conflict between Foxx and Cruise.

8. Didn't see the DVD-was only going by the trailer when I saw it |
|
thought it would be more action packed based on that but I enjoyed it just the way it is. I was really interested in the relationship b/w Cruise and Foxx.
