Retailers nervous as Christmas traffic is poor
Shoppers may see price cuts as buying binge fails to materialize

<snip>
Retailers hoped for but apparently did not get a hefty sales surge this past weekend. The merchants were hoping to recoup lost business after a slow start to the holiday shopping season, and now must rely even more heavily on the final days before Christmas and post-holiday sales to meet their forecasts.

1. Of course, why drive to the malls with gas over $2.00 a gallon?
Then again who can afford to buy presents with gas over $2.00 a gallon?

:grr:

2. The Rich are buying more.................
trouble is the Rich aren't buying at Wallyworld and KKKmart. Regular folks, you know, the ones that think Bush is doing a good job and deserves 4 more years, aren't buying as much because their earning power has decreased. Or worse, they have no jobs at all.
Merry Christmas from the White House.
All I can say to the people and Corporations that supported Bush in the election, "stupid is as stupid does". You wanted him, now suffer the consequences you mindless dweebs.

3. we made biscotti for everyone
didn't buy any presents. We made Biscotti, which was a royal pain, but it sure beat going to malls and giving money to companies that support republicans.

...except for my brothers kids! They are getting presents as should all good children!

5. Wal-mart and K-mart
are reaping what they've sown. They've won the race to the bottom and taken the country down with them.

8. Inventory tax is going kill some retailers.
If they don't dump some of that useless junk they stocked up on for the Holiday Shopping Season, it's really going to bite them in the butt.

10. When will they realize that people don't have any money to spend.
Because many people don't have jobs. And these stores pay such low wages that their employees don't have any money to spend. And the products that they sell are made in China, often via work outsourced by American companies who laid off their workers, who no longer have jobs, and have no money to buy presents.

11. We've been buying a little here and a little there for quite awhile,
which left only a handful of things to buy during the Christmas rush. I despise crowded malls, so shopping this way is a much better option for me. Plus, it spreads the cost out over a number of months making it easier on the wallet.
