When The Heck Did This Place Become Abortion Underground?
Last time I checked, nothing has changed right, why the sudden wave of abortion posts?

Do people honestly believe that abortion was a factor in this election at all?

If people are pro-life, and that's their most important thing:

(a) they have too much time on their hands to think about something that doesn't affect them.

(b) they are probably really weird people.

(c) they won't vote for a Democrat anyway.

God, of all the important issues out there, abortion is like, the 20th or 30th most important. I'd put it somewhere between gay marriage and steroids in baseball.

Jobs, health care, and war. Those are important issues.

Abortion is like the carnival sideshow that passes through town once every four years. Does it really need to be analyzed like this - its a 30-year-old issue.

1. yes it does - so we can defang the issue and move on
there's a reasonable place where I think we are headed as a nation on the issue, the sooner we get there the better...

5. the sooner we get there?
abortion was legalized in 1973, what mode of transportation are we taking as a nation - sloth power?

8. No way are "we" gonna "defang" the issue...
here on DU with threads like the ones I've been seeing here lately....and with some posters who seem to enjoy trying to tell others how to think believe...

I agree with Magic Rat... so whats up with the distraction, bub?
Lots more issues we can focus on right now.....

6. No offense, but you aren't a woman, and it is important to both sides
As a feminist activist, retaining the right to choose is the most important issue to me.

And, to the anti-choice group, getting rid of that right is the number-one issue on their agenda. Abortion is one reason the south is "solid." If you don't believe me, come visit during next election cycle, and we'll take a little drive around the state, where you will see that at least half of the homes that display republican candidate signs also have signs that say "My family votes Pro-Life."

You are right, though, on one point, and that is that they won't vote Democratic anyway.

11. Important as it is, it only became talked about after the mock election
as a part of the effort to surrender to the occupiers. Sometimes it's guns, or gays, or God - the present and future nazi agenda is being rammed down our throats one issue at the time (it all being just a power game anyway)

13. yeah, that's the point
the people for whom is issue is most important have already drawn sides are aren't moving. The folks who could care less about it are the one's who will end up deciding it one way or the other.

So why debate? Its inconsequential. Neither side will ever 'win' or 'lose' its debate.

Republicans need a pro-life base motivated to overturn rvw to keep coming back to the voting booth, and Democrats need just enough of the fear of 'it could be taken away' to keep the activists coming back.

Both sides need things to stay just the way they are. Perpetual war. Keeps the activist cash flowing in.

9. Cripes. Where have you been?
Edited on Mon Dec-20-04 06:26 PM by TaleWgnDg
Abortion. Creationism. Guns for all, and all for guns. Prayer in public schools. Don't Burn MY flag. No Gay Marriage or Other Sodomite Acts. Never Distribute Condoms. Gag Abortion Info OverSeas. Only "Christian" Judges. There's no such thing as Separation of Church and State (ask Justice Scalia). Our laws are based on the Bible.

Geez. Get Real, huh?

12. umm... basically
it's one MAN who feels compelled to tell women what to do with their bodies. He can't really explain why, though.

We would give birth through our penises and then pursue adoption.

19. It is a health care issue
I have the right to make my own health care decisions. That's the bottom line. When you get pregnant and live 60 miles from the only place where you can get an abortion if you have complictions, because of your local hospital's "morals and ethics", then see how important an issue you think it is.
