DirecTV or DishNetwork?
There was someone who was a dealer here.

We have had Direct for years, and have had no problems. Tomorrow, however, I am switching to Dish. We can do it now for little cost. It seems to be a bit less expensive, includes more, and has Sirius music.

It is a 'blue company,' per Choosetheblue.com; but so is Murdoch's Direct-TV, in that employees of Direct go 60-40 in terms of contributions, leaning towards the Democratic side.

I just feel better getting away from giving Murdoch money. He has singlehandedly changed our newsflow to complete RNC propaganda.

Plus, Dish has Free Speech TV, which airs Democracy Now.

I looked up the CEO of Dish, and results are mixed. He's mostly contributed to Democratic causes and Senate committees, but his wife has made some contributions to Rethuglicans, as has he.

Anyone have any thoughts? Why is Dish Network television (Echostar) considered to be 'blue' (Democratic)?

4. Yes, it does depend on what you want
Dish is great for progressive programs. I guess DirecTV is okay if you want football packages.

7. So true.
Direct does have Sunday NFL Ticket - and I've had this season and not used it once.

I'm also a Chargers season ticketholder, and so, most of the Sundays I am down at the game. The away-games have been either on CBS or Fox - my regular station. I'm just not using the NFL ticket anymore.

And I'm more into progressive programming. So, we are going to try that.

Thanks for the input. I hope there is more.

9. I switched to Dish from DirectTV
I not only pay less it suits my viewing needs better. I, also, got a receiver upgrade which still cost me less than I paid with DirectTV.

11. We had horrible problems with Direct TV receivers and customer service
If you like time spent on hold waiting and waiting and waiting... Direct might be your best bet. If you want a system that is trouble free and where customer service just calls once in awhile to see if things are OK, go with Dish.

We love the serivce from Dish and not one bit of equipment problems. With Direct, we had 4 receivers in about 1 year... Spent plenty of time taking them to the UPS drop off place, waiting for the next one, then sending it back too, rinse, repeat... What a joke.

13. That's good news. Thanks, HavocMom.
I have had the Direct for several years, and have had no problems with the customer service, but, then, I've only called them but a few times. They've reset things, etc., with no problems.

But ... it matters not now.

I'll like the Dish programming a bit better, I'm guessing. So, we will go through with the change (from Direct to Dish) tomorrow.

It is GOOD to know that Dish's customer has been good to you.

But thanks. (We're football fans, but we're Charger fans, and we go to the games).

16. My experience
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 12:25 AM by LeftCoast
I've had DirecTV for a few years now. Extremely happy. Next door neighbors have Dish. They like it ok, but last time I spoke to them, they wanted to switch to DTV for some reason.

In all honesty, compared to cable (even that crap they call digital cable), either sat system is going to be excellent.

on edit: just wanted to add that I hate sports, so that's not a factor in why I like DTV. :P

18. The only bummer about Dish is that their cable channels are on
Eastern time so things like the Daily Show are 3 hours earlier...other than that, I love having Link, FSTV, and they have a few other channels that are quite good...especially the university channels

I can live with time adjustments. I think that I have to with Direct.

Good to know that you like Free Speech TV and Link.

I wish that in addition to the Sirius music channels, they would feed Air America via Dish Network (all of the Sirius channels - including #143 and #144). I would love that.
