How abject a failure do you have to be NOT to get a letter from Who's Who? |
|
(In other words, I got one.) I can't figure out what criterion there could possibly be to put me in Who's Who In America. I guess if you're a published abject failure, that's enough. I'm afraid I chucked the thing almost immediately (after having opened it to verify that they were really asking for a profile). On retrospect, I should have kept it for laugh value. At the time, I just thought I'd be depressed by it.
Maybe they mixed me up with my namesake, fellow DUer stuckinthebush. Hey SITB! Sorry I threw out your Who's Who letter!
Anyway, color me puzzled. Anybody else get one of these?

I got one in high school. My parents sent in the money to buy the book with me in it and they probably still have it in a box somewhere.
I didn't know there was a general one for adults out of school.

3. They sent me 2 copies of the HS one for free |
|
We never ordered any further copies. Maybe they're still trying to get their money back.

4. It's Been A While But... |

If I remember correctly, I got in there on the basis of a teacher recommendation. And considering I was a C+/B- student in high school (10 years ago), I'd say your grades would have to be pretty terrible to NOT be eligible.

6. Was extremely prestigious about 50 years ago |
|
That, of course, was about 50 years ago (maybe 70). Google "Who's Who in America" and you'll get about 1,000 opportunities to buy the book and about 73,000 people you've never heard of saying "He was listed in 'Who's Who in America." Not a scam in the strictest sense, but more an, uh, opportunity for maniacal self-promoters to have something impressive-sounding to crow about. Some of the Google hits were for authors I hadn't heard of, so indeed it was probably my ISBN number that got me in the club.
