Winter starts in 6 minutes...are you ready?
I myself can understand why ancient peoples made the Winter Solstice a day of feasting. In another few minutes, we will enter the time where the days start getting longer and warmer.

I can't wait. I hate January, February, and often, March.

I agree with the person on a local news story who once answered the question:

Why is February the shortest month of the year?
Because no one could stand it to be any longer!

6. That's a nice graphic
In D.C. this morning in the 20s with a litle bit of left over snow from Sunday on the ground. It will warm up to the 40s today.

15. Thank you - I've had it in my picture file for years.
I lived in DC as a kid and remember that the 40's seemed warm indeed. The snow would melt a little and by morning would have a crust of ice on top. Then it would snow again and you'd walk across it, drop through the ice layer and your boots would fill up with snow.

How I miss sleigh riding and all that goes with it.

It's a chilly 57 in Miami, but it seems a lot colder.

5. Not yet in Ohio....
...but we're looking to get a major dump tomorrow and tomorrow night into Thursday -- forecasts say 8-10 inches, and those amounts could be "conservative." I can't remember the last time we had a major storm like this so early in the season -- with bitter cold temps to boot. Maybe when I was a kid, but certainly not within recent memory.

It's gonna be a long, cold, lonely winter, I'm afraid.

Keep warm!

It's too cold to snow here right now. We had white out conditions around midnight though.

7. beautiful downtown Ashland, Massachusetts ...
it's a whopping 4 degrees this morning with wind chills way below zero ... and after we changed from rain to snow on Sunday night and temperatures dropped from the mid-30's to below freezing, we now have a nice crust of ice on the ground topped off with about 3 inches of snow ...

but i'm not complaining ... i love the winter and i love the snow ...

9. Let it snow..let it snow..let it snow
We're supposed to get 6 inches tonight. (Promises, promises)

First snow of the year and it should be a hefty start on the first day of winter. Hope that's not a sign of what's to come.

It will get me at least one more day off this week and I'm up for that.

We will have a White brass monkey eunich makin cold ass Christmas!

12. In Connecticut, winter began a day early.
The high yesterday was about 15 degrees with a mean-ass wind chill. Plus, it had snowed several inches the night before. :eyes:
