Somebody Is Shooting Ducks With BLOWDARTS At Apartment Complex
:grr:

<snip>

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- Seven ducks at a Jacksonville apartment complex were injured in blowgun attacks over the weekend.

One duck had seven darts in its head, and another was found with a dart in its eye. Animal control officers are treating the animals.

About two dozen black and white merganser ducks live around a pond at the Mayport Trace Apartments.

Complex residents called police and animal control authorities after seeing the wounded animals. Police say plastic plugs attached to a thin steel dart were apparently shot from blowguns at the ducks.

No arrests had been made but police say the crime is a third-degree felony.

2. Blowdarts? Amateurs!
Long ago, in the late 70's, I hitchhiked across the country. I got picked up by a couple of guys who, in the course of our travels, brought me to their connection's house to score weed.

This guy lived in a lakefront condo and he had a big cabinet filled with pot and cocaine, and a set of triple beams on his coffee table (I was 17 - this was all new to me).

As we sat there visiting, we heard ducks squawking outside. The guy says, "Those damn ducks!", pulls a .22 out from under the sofa, and runs out on the deck and takes a few shots!

This seemed strange behavior in the middle of a drug deal but it wasn't my business. We learned a couple of days later that he'd done it again, only this time he used a shotgun and he forgot to open the sliding glass door first.

The cops got a nice bust out of it - I never heard how much time he got. :shrug:

4. The one time I ever had such violent instincts, I wasn't sure I could
control myself, was when I came outside to see pre-teen boys throwing rocks at my beloved dog fenced in the backyard. My heart lurches just thinking back to the memory, as it is no less painful some 20 years later...

While I only ran them off screaming, had I had a rock to throw (or something else) I might well have used it. I pray I never come across someone being cruel to innocent animals again....

Damn these assholes to hell....

5. One time while playing golf
a guy in the group in front of me pulled a shotgun out of his bag and shot an incoming duck. I was very careful after that not to hit into them.
