5 down; 1 to go!!! I'm almost done!!!! |
|
Finished my next to last semester in law school today with what proved to be a fairly kick-ass performance in court. I did the honors at a guardianship hearing and got a guardianship of the person for our client over his mentally incapacitated uncle. My professor and colleague were THRILLED with me; most importantly, so was the client.
Yesterday I had my second and last exam of the semester, so that's out of the way. Today after the hearing we wrapped up some last minute details in Elder Clinic, and I actually dragged myself to the bookstore to get next semester's books (what were there, anyway).
I can't believe I have no schoolwork on my horizon for a few weeks! WOOHOO!!!!!!!!!!!! I'm going to take a well-deserved nap with the kitties now and then get up to pack for my visit to hubby in Dallas tomorrow.
What a great day! It's good to be alive!!!
:D

2. You should DEFINITELY do a clinic |
|
I have more confidence in myself than I ever have before after taking this clinic. What clinic are you interested in? And how did your finals go?

I'm thinking of doing the landlord & tenant clinic, after I've had my Evidence and Trial Advocacy classes next fall.

my law school had both civil and criminal clinics. I only did civil, and I'm still sorry I missed out on the opportunity to criminal.
It's excellent real-world experience in a controlled environment, and since the clients typically can't afford a "real" lawyer, you're doing some good in the community as well. I worked on an adoption for a family from Mexico. The husband was not the biological father of the 8-year-old girl, but her dad was nowhere to be found. They had never gone through with the adoption because they were afraid that the notice requirement would bring the absentee-dad back into her life. Her adoption day was the highlight of this little girl's life. I was beyond thrilled that I helped it happen.
