I just received the nicest holiday gift from a fellow DUer! |
|
Edited on Tue Dec-21-04 06:53 PM by NightTrain
About a month ago, I posted to DU, stating that I had no one for whom to buy Christmas presents this year. I half-jokingly wrote that I didn't know whether to cry or to celebrate. In response, DUer "progmom" PMed me, the end result of which was that we agreed to exchange gifts this holiday season.
My gift came in today's mail. Considering the size of the package--it was big enough to contain about a dozen vinyl LPs--I couldn't imagine what she could've gotten me. When I opened it, I was amazed to find not one, not two, not three, but EIGHT jazz CDs! I couldn't believe it.
Thank you, progmom! And I hoped you liked your gift from me. :loveya:
Now, here are the CDs of which I am the proud owner as of today:
LOUIS ARMSTRONG & DUKE ELLINGTON, The Great Summit JOHN COLTRANE, The Best of.... DIZZY GILLESPIE, SONNY ROLLINS & SONNY STITT, Sonny Side Up CARMEN McRAE Sings Great American Songwriters ANITA O'DAY (with the Oscar Peterson Quartet), Anita Sings The Most SONNY ROLLINS, Saxophone Colossus SHIRLEY SCOTT, Queen of the Organ: The Memorial Album BOBBY TIMMONS, The Best of....

Especially the Sonny Stitt CD. One of Saginaw's own. John Stevie Wonder would be another notable from here. Merry Christmas, eh?

What a nice thing for the two of you to do. BTW, an old friend of mine used to be Carmen McRae's bass player. He played with her for years. WHo is the bass player on this one? Enjoy, those are really great CD's.

Muserider - who was your friend? I'm probably the biggest Carmen McRae fan you'll ever meet.

My friend is Bob Bowman. I do not know the years he played for her. We were friends in the mid-late 70's. He does play a lot these days, we have not been around each other for a long time but I do see him on occasion. He is currently playing with Karyn Allyson and has many other gigs as well.

Merry Christmas.
And thanks for your excellent gift! I've really been enjoying it - I've already added songs to my Ipod based on what I've read in the book!
