Movie - The Diary of Anne Frank

The 1959 movie, The Diary of Anne Frank will be on Turner Classic Movies channel at 9 pm eastern time tonight. Millie Perkins did an excellent portrayal of Anne, and I'll never forget the impact this movie had on me when I saw it in '59 at the age of 16 (Anne was only 15 when she died).

1. I first read the Diary of Anne Frank when I was 12

changed me forever .

4. The following quote

from her diary could be applied to current circumstances as well:

“I simply can’t build up my hopes on a foundation consisting of confusion, misery, and death. I see the world gradually being turned into a wilderness; I hear the ever approaching thunder, which will destroy us too; I can feel the sufferings of millions; and yet, if I look up into the heavens, I think that it will all come right, that this cruelty will end, and that peace and tranquilty will return again….I must uphold my ideals, for perhaps the time will come when I shall be able to carry them out.”

Had she lived, Anne would have been 75 in June '04.

2. We saw that movie in 8th grade in school.

It had a lasting effect on me also.

It's rare for me to have been moved by a book as I was by that one.
