meat
i haven't had much luck, i'm looking for info on restaraunts sources for beef, poultry, etc. i work in a 'raunt and found a chunk of bone in my chicken taco. i work for a brinker co. and they are dark red, 98 percenters i think. lowest bidder wouldn't suprise me.it's put me off kinda like the "allowable puss percentage" put me off milk and onto soy. yuck.

1. Cripes...
It's a freaking chicken. They have small bones. Get over it. That is not soy milk, that's soy juice, but they can't call it that because when you say soy juice you actually start to physically gag.

It's the cowardly veghead that "substitutes" soy juice and meatless hamburgers.

7. I, myself, like soy milk and veggie burgers.
In fact, it seems to me that a number of uncultured meatheads have an irrational fear that vegetarians are out to take away their meat. Kind of like a dog with his bone.

10. i know
i mean its not the first time i found a bone in something that shouldn't have it. i remember "beef" stroganoff in the army...i found what looked like and artery. but it made me think this time, since i work for them. our ribeyes are nasty thin fatty things, and there is a sub-par feeling about the place. probably my sub-conscience working for a red co.

12. Well, your soy ain't pure either.
FDA regulations allow 4.5 rat hairs in every 225g of pasta products. Grain can contain up to 9mg of rodent droppings in every 450g. Vegetables and juices are allowed to have maggots in them.

If we thought about it all, none of us would ever eat again.

13. thank you. the gritty truth hits all of us.
nothing is made in some celestial heaven devoid of the dirt and filth of earth. nothing. period. end of story. it's all filled with icky, nasty, eww-y, goo-ey, unmentionables. the ideal is to minimize those unmentionables to as small and acceptable level as possible.

there's no 'special diet' to avoid it, all there is is gov't regulations to manage it. hence the paramount importance of politics and being involved in it. i'm thinking of buying more western european and japanese food stuffs... i'm afraid most of american regulation will be ignored more readily these next four years. *sigh* oh well, another unintentional "boycott" of american products... i have a big vote of no confidence in this administration, and that's just gonna hurt american corporations.

15. i emailed white wave( silkissoy.com )
this is my question, and this is their "response." mine follows.
> hi! i really enjoy your products, i was turned on to soy after finding
> out about puss content in cow milk. i read this on a web site and
> wonder, is the info below true? how does this relate to white wave? FDA
> regulations allow 4.5 rat hairs in every 225g of pasta products. Grain
> can contain up to 9mg of rodent droppings in every 450g. Vegetables and
> juices are allowed to have maggots in them.
> thanks for your help!

ok, that was nice enough and to the point. this, i don't understand though;
Dear Charles,

Thank you for taking the time to contact us. This sounds like a question for the FDA.
We are not aware if these claims being made are true or not. We suggest looking into
these claims further.

Best regards,
From the folks at White Wave

ok, thats bullshit. so here i go...

this is considered an acceptable response to you? you have a questionnaire and you can't answer a question? do you know how your products are processed or not? this is disheartening to hear. you have the facts, and you are being dishonest and covering up. perhaps the FDA does need to get involved if you are running your business in this manner. this really is disappointing. "We are not aware if these claims being made are true or not." thats an outright LIE. you know good and well what is allowable in processing your products. you have to or you wouldn't be allowed to produce items for public consumption. i would appreciate a proper answer.

thank you

cripes, why do people have to give you the run around every time?

16. You have to do some digging
but you can find the allowable amounts of contaminations allowed in food products in the FDA website. It's a long document and starts with allowable mercury in fish and goes on and on and on...rodent feces, insect parts (even detailing down to how many roach legs are allowable), lead paint chips, fly eggs, whole maggots (different amounts allowed depending on the type of food or juice...and you thought the worm only came in tequila, didn't you?), pus, scabs, skin and finger/toe nails (human). Like I said, if you stop to think about the yuck factor you'd never eat again.

18. this all got hijacked somehow
from my intention, but it just really fucks it up when you can't get a straight answer from people that say "do you have a question? pick your topic and email us for a response!" i am not gonna stop eating or drinking, but with milk its the plgem factor combined with the image of an infected teet. i can deal with things that i cook at home. my main question was and still is, what do you have to do to find out where kfc gets their chicken, mcd's gets their "meat", otb gets their chicken, etc. i will deal with the gritty truth when i find out how filthy the conditions are. i know it varies, companies differ in policies and cleanliness. this was not supposed to be a "guess what's in that" thread.

20. It comes from so many
who are militantly against the use of animal products trying to convince people that their version of edibles don't contain any of that nasty stuff when the truth is that it probably does.

Yes, the question should be answered for you. But I think you'll find that these places get their supplies from many sources. KFC gets most of their chicken from Tyson...well, at least around here. They advertise it as a selling point. Most of the hamburger joints buy from the closest packing plant.

This site might help you in your search. The plants themselves might be more willing to tell you who they sell to.

17. I think they're right - it's a question for the FDA
If you want to know if information about FDA regulations are true, then they are your best bet. Pasta has nothing to do with White Wave, as far as I can tell; I wouldn't have thought grain or juice would either. Soy beans are a vegetable, but your "allowed to have maggots in them" is pretty vague; to assume they are covering up is ridiculous.

If you had sent them questions specifically about their ingredients, rather than general food regulations, maybe they've had thought it relevant to their products. They're not your research service.

19. it's THEIR product
they can answer it. why not get it from them? they don't need to research. it's THEIR product. they know. its not a conspiracy, its that they're afraid of pr or something. bullshit.

22. Thing to remember about the FDA
The FDA rules are about the MAXIMUM allowable contamination. That means the levels they specify are not what you can always expect, it means it's the worst that you can reasonably expect (assuming the inspectors are doing their jobs). Like everything else you get what you pay for; those firms that value their reputation will do better. Which is why I don't buy anything edible at Wal-Mart.

14. Many, many years ago
a famous Chinese restaurant on Long Island, NY, was indicted for raising cats in their basement and serving them in their sweet and sour pork, of course labeled as pork. I had eaten that very dish there several times. To this day, I have a tough time eating out, especially in Chinese restaurants. :puke:

21. You don't really want to know about soy then
I worked at a soya mill briefly about 20 years ago. The soybeans were shipped in by lake freighter. When the grain was offloaded, it was pumped onto the dock through a grate to a holding area below. The grates were not fenced off and you could walk over them. The entire dock was coated with a 1" thick layer of seagull poop.

The fact is there is no such thing as 100% pristine food and there never was. That's why it gets washed, pasteurized, irradiated and/or cooked.
