Anyone here do video editing & Photoshop on an iMac?
I want a G5 but I can't afford a tower right now (especially since I'm in love with the new 30" Cinema Display and would simply somehow have to have that with the tower).

I'm eyeing the iMac. Is there anyone here doing any video editing, After Effects and/or Photoshop work on an iMac that could help me make this decision?

Currently I have an HP laptop that doesn't have processor speed to handle video.. drops frames, etc. So I'm thinking about keeping the HP for surfing the web but I want the Mac for graphics.

Thanks!

2. I use a mac G4 Laptop
I use a mac G4 Laptop (PowerBook) and everything works great. No problems at all with speed etc. The new iMac is faster than the laptop I have.

You also might want to post the question on Apples forums http://discussions.info.apple.com/imacg5/

I love the studio displays too.... Im still dreaming about getting one (or two:)

3. Even BETTER...
go to www.macrumors.com and sign up for the forums. I love that place, and the people there are total mac addicts and could discuss this topic with you 'til your heart's content!

4. The iMac is surely fast enough for any MiniDV type work!

I work on both Mac and Wintel machines, and the current iMacs are ALL fast enough for great mini-DV work.

Just a note: There is a NEW version of Photoshop in the pipeline right now...

I had a 24" display at my last gig, the Apple monitors are AMAZING!!! And they had to pry the G4 Ti with a gig or RAM out of my hands as I left!!! We actually cut video in FCP while sitting in a theatre waiting for a movie!!! When done, we took the laptop back and let the G4 tower (with an 8 disk SCSI array) conform the edit in High Def!!! That was FUN!!!

6. I do a lot of audio compression on an eMac.
And I also do a bit of GIMP (Free software Photoshop equivalent) on it.

The things you mostly need are disk space and RAM. And those can be added to an iMac quite easily.
