6. I'll tell you what's wrong with some of them.

Some of them claim to know the mind of God Himself (Herself...the pronouns don't much matter to me).

They claim to know God's mind, and then they speak for Him; i.e. "God hates liberals" or "God is not liberal" or (and this is my favorite) "How can you go to church and claim to worship God if you vote Democrat?"

My brother was asked that last question recently.

My husband heard the middle statement just yesterday. When asked by the client-of-a-client what church he attends, he said, "I go to an ELCA church with my wife." (Apparently it had come up in conversation that he was raised American Baptist, which is by and large reasonably liberal). The client-of-a-client attends a conservative American Baptist church. He was horrified, and actually got angry with my husband!

"How can you go to such a liberal church? God is not a liberal!"

Um, okay. What? Did you dial Him up on your cell phone and ask Him?

My husband was itching to debate this guy, but his business sense prevailed and he refrained.

Anyway. That's what's wrong with *some* Christians. They claim they know exactly what God is thinking, and they use these arrogant thoughts and ideas to promote divisiveness and hatred instead of understanding, social good, and peace.

11. I told my sister about 20 years ago that I couldn't see how someone

could be a Republican and a Christian- because the essence of the Republican party is the quest for wealth and this is the opposite of the teachings of Jesus. I thought it was obvious. I guess it isn't to them.

concrete proof that there is a God, that he had a son from an immaculate conception on December 25, that this son actually performed all of those miracles, and that his Dad let him die on a cross to "save mankind", then I'll believe them and have "Merry Christmas" upon my lips 24/7. Don't wave a book at me that is centuries old, written by men, translated numerous times and each time losing some of the original interpretation and tell me that is proof of a messiah. I'm not buying it. "Blind" faith doesn't work for me. Sorry.
Until then it's "Happy Holidays" or nothing at all since I think this time of year is a tremendous pain in the ass.
The Fundies can believe anything they want, I just don't want them force feeding their opinions down my throat.
