When the new year arrives, Secretary of State Colin Powell's finger will be on the button. That's the button for the Times Square ball drop in New York, celebrating the arrival of 2005.

Mayor Michael Bloomberg announced Powell's selection as the celebrity guest for Times Square's celebration, calling him ``as New York as you could possibly be.''

Powell is a native of New York City and a product of its public schools. The ball drop will wrap up six hours of entertainment in Times Square, including music, videos, comedians and New Year's Eve party favors.
