Part Maine coon cat. He also loves water, begs to go out in the rain. Very odd cat but highly intelligent, likes to interact and hunts indoors for hours.
Toppled the tree twice before they tied it up with mono filament line guy wires.

5. I had a kitten once that climbed the Christmas tree. |

My current cat eats ornaments with ribbons or anything fuzzy, so those have to go at the top of the tree.

7. Not a cat story - my dog gravitates to the tree |

She sleeps under it. She's huge, BTW; 100-lb. Akita mix. She stretches herself out as much as she can and kind of "wriggles" herself under it.
Maybe they provide "cover" in rooms mostly devoid of it? Or maybe they're just pretty and creatures of all kinds like pretty? I dunno. ;-)

Of all the kitties I've owned, none have ever (yet) scaled the tree. Almost all have loved sleeping under it, though.
Now, my Beans is under the tree, while her brother, Frank, is chewing on the branch. I figure it's OK as long as he doesn't munch on the lights.
