Strawberry Fields was a subdivision where Lennon lived once as a kid.

It's a childhood remembrance, if I'm not mistaken.

Love "Long and Winding Road," too, although not a love song. The "clean" version on "Let it Be...Naked" is amazing.

"Because" by the Dave Clark Five
(its simple, honest, and happy sincerity gets me verklempt every time)

and

"Something" by the Beatles.
(it's Harrison's guitar and the orchestral strings that get me on that one)

39. I have two -
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 10:29 AM by BigMcLargehuge
Kayleigh/Lavender by Marillion (ok, it's two songs, but they are like halfs...)

Kayleigh-

Do you remember chalk hearts melting on a playground wall
Do you remember dawn escapes from moon washed college halls
Do you remember the cherry blossom in the market square
Do you remember I thought it was confetti in our hair
By the way didn't I break your heart?
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine
Kayleigh is it too late to say I'm sorry?
And Kayleigh could we get it together again?
I just can't go on pretending that it came to a natural end
Kayleigh, oh I never thought I'd miss you
And Kayleigh I thought that we'd always be friends
We said our love would last forever
So how did it come to this bitter end?

Do you remember barefoot on the lawn with shooting stars
Do you remember loving on the floor in Belsize Park
Do you remember dancing in stilettoes in the snow
Do you remember you never understood I had to go
By the way, didn't I break your heart
Please excuse me, I never meant to break your heart
So sorry, I never meant to break your heart
But you broke mine

Kayleigh I just wanna say I'm sorry
But Kayleigh I'm too scared to pick up the phone
To hear you've found another lover to patch up our broken home
Kayleigh I'm still trying to write that love song
Kayleigh it's more important to me now you're gone
Maybe it will prove that we were right
Or ever prove that I was wrong

Lavender -

I was walking in the park dreaming of a spark
When I heard the sprinklers whisper
Shimmer in the haze of summer lawns
Then I heard the children singing
They were running through the rainbows
They were singing a song for you
Well it seemed to be a song for you
The one I wanted to write for you, for you
Lavenders blue, dilly dilly, lavenders green
When I am King, dilly dilly, you will be Queen
A penny for your thoughts my dear
A penny for your thoughts my dear
I.O.U. for your love, IOU for your love

Lavenders green, dilly dilly, lavenders blue
When you love me, dilly dilly, I will love you
A penny for your thoughts my dear
A penny for your thoughts my dear
IOU for your love, IOU for your love

For your love

And for fun I usually play this one for Mrs. McLargehuge when I am feeling cheeky -

I can't Keep my Mind on You - The Fools (I typed this from memory, so some lyrics may be off)

We walk along the quiet streets in this lonely town (lonely town)
Your lips move, but I swear I don't hear a sound (hear a sound)
I wish you'd stayed back in Toledo where you belong (you belong)

Then all at once, it came to me, I knew our love, was not what love should be
I can't keep my, can't keep my, can't keep...

Can't keep my mind on you
Can't keep my mind on you
cuz' when you're around
I really start to wonder
when I'm with you
my mind starts to wander around

We sit alone in the quiet cafe that we used to know (used to know)
the food is bad, your hair is a mess, but the lights are low (lights are low)
The waiter there, remembered your name
I wish I could say the same
The meal arrived, my stomach turned, I had to go

Then all at once, it came to me, I knew our love, was not what love should be
I can't keep my, can't keep my, can't keep...

Can't keep my mind on you
Can't keep my mind on you
cuz' when you're around
I really start to wonder
when I'm with you
my mind starts to wander around

La la la la la la-la-la la la-la-la la LAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAH
La la la la la la-la-la la la-la-la la LAAAA LAAAAAAAAAAAAH
La-la-la la-la-la la la-la-la la-la la-la lu-la

Then all at once, it came to me, I knew our love, was not what love should be
I can't keep my, can't keep my, can't keep my,
I can't keep my, can't keep my, can't keep my,
I can't keep my, can't keep my, can't keep my,
can kep mah can kep mah caaaaaaaa... meh?

42. Small Hours - the Pogues.
I close the door and turn the key
And dream a world for you and me
Beyond the walls a city breathes
In this room one heart beats
The stars they shine for you and me

On the street ten floors below
The city lights are all aglow
The corner girls they come and go
Dreaming of a ticket home
The stars they shine for you and me

I'll have a drink and then we'll see
If the spirit conjures your genie
To lie beside me in my dreams
The wind is blowing a melody
The stars they shine for you and me

Close the door and turn the key
And now that you're alone with me
We'll sit up late and watch TV
The neon flashes red and green
The stars they shine for you and me

In my humble room at night,
I often wonder what goes on out there.
What makes them run so scared?

I often stare
at the people passing by,
but they can't see me through my window pane,
just like I'm not even there.

This is my private life.
There's something dangerous alive.

46. "The Way You Look Tonight"
Especially by Sinatra.

Some day, when I'm awfully low
When the world is cold
I will feel a glow just thinking of you
And the way you look tonight.

Yes, you're lovely
With your smile so warm
And your cheeks so soft
There is nothing for me but to love you
And the way you look tonight.

With each word your tenderness grows
Tearing my fear apart
And that laugh that wrinkles your nose
Touches my foolish heart.

Lovely -
Never, ever change
Keep that breathless charm
Won't you please arrange it?
'Cause I love you
Just the way you look tonight.
