Poll question: Who's your favorite comedian? Mine is Carlin, followed by Pryor & Kinison
Even though you can only vote for your #1 comedian, my top 3 are:
1)George Carlin
2)Richard Pryor
3)Sam Kinison

All names in the poll below are listed in alphabetical order by last name.

If you want to mention another one, here's another list of some other comedians not listed in the poll, again in alphabetical order by last name: Woody Allen, Roseanne Barr, Lenny Bruce, Bill Cosby, Ellen Degeneres, Laurel & Hardy, Buddy Hackett, Bill Hicks, Jay Leno, David Letterman, Steve Martin, Groucho Marx, Bob Newhart, Carrot Top, Jonathan Winters, Henny Youngman.....I'm sure there's others I've missed.

Editorial Reviews
Amazon.com
Bill Hicks's scathing, fearless standup comedy is on full display in Satirist, Social Critic, Stand-Up Comedian, the first official DVD release containing the late performer's work. Hicks, who died in 1994 at age 32, may not have been a total original; he's often compared to Lenny Bruce, as well as Sam Kinison and others, and he was hardly the first comic to talk about sex, drugs, politics, and religion, even if Hicks's takes on these matters are usually strikingly fresh. But there's simply no denying the unabashed, in-your-face power of these three early '90s performances, one each from Chicago, Montreal (entitled Relentless, this show originally aired on HBO), and London. Hicks is profane, to say the least, but never crude for its own sake, and certainly not stupid (we're not talking Andrew Dice Clay here). His humor is abrasive, passionate, shameless, provocative--calling non-smokers "obnoxious, self-righteous slugs" is one of his milder observations--and it's delivered in riveting, almost preacher-like fashion, with a strong physical element. And anyone who doubts his impact, both during and after his short, turbulent life, need only watch "It's Just a Ride," the 40-minute documentary accompanying the three live shows, in which both family and famous (Jay Leno and David Letterman among them) comment on him and work. In the end, you realize that since his death, no comic has come along who can touch Bill Hicks. --Sam Graham

Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 10:19 AM by Patiod
Nasty, cyncial, misanthropic, and damned funny. A Southern boy with Jack Benny's sense of timing and way of working pauses.

"Ah've seen me do it"

Also, Chris Rock got my vote for the one skit from his HBO show, which showed all the hazard of DWB, the funniest of which was driving with an Angry Black Woman.

"Officer! He got weed!"
It's become one of our favorite catch-phrases

18. I Like Ron White, Too
The first time i saw his Comedy Central 1 hour show, i laughed so hard and so often that my asthma acted up when it was over. It was worth it.

He's almost a raconteur, because the jokes are long and they have a theme, and then he back references earlier bits quite often. I think he's my favorite new comic.

But, i don't think White fits that mold. He is obviously friends with the guys in that stable, but his bits are really not blue collar style. Especially with the ever-present scotch & soda.

He's gruff, but i don't think he fits in with that group.

Believe me. I tried my best to justify getting one of the ladies in the poll section, but just couldn't see where any of them could bump out the ones I selected for the poll. It doesn't mean that I don't think some of the ladies aren't great comedians, because I do. It's a male dominated list, because it's a male-dominated profession, at least at the upper end of it.

Anyway, in retrospect, I would probably have replaced Seinfeld with Roseanne Barr in the poll.

All in fun :)

I have an existential map at home. It says you are here all over it.

Oh and Emo Philips. Lets here it for nerdy intellectual humor.

Emo hands a peace of paper to an audience member and instructs them to tear it in half and toss one peace away. Then repeat until they are down to one atom and then do it one more time. He then runs away.
