Anyone here with a "photographic memory"?
Do you consider it a blessing or a curse?
Mine's somewhat selective now that I'm 55, but basically intact, it's more of a blessing in our ahistorical Homeland.

1. Got that...
...it's a mixed blessing.

Sometimes it leaves me cringing at past events.

If only we could get a "purge button" for our brains, eh?

13. Yes, but that takes away more brain cells than I'm prepared to lose.
...We need a hardware switch. :)

2. Not me
But that sort of thing could be considered a mild form of autism (Asperberg's etc). BTW, I know nothing of the disorder, but from what I hear...

5. Having a strong visual sketchpad may be common among persons
Edited on Thu Dec-23-04 11:36 PM by Ilsa
with autism, but having a strong visual sketchpad and photographic memory doesn't necessary place one on the spectrum of the disorder. A person may have strong visual memory skills, but may be just as sensitive with auditory information and not have a problem with socialization.

(I think the term you were looking for is "Asperger's syndrome".)

8. You must know much more than I on this subject
So I stand corrected. I am definately not an expert in the field.

17. I have a child with autism.
He has a strong visual sketchpad, but so do I. Alot of people identify themselves as visual learners.

I also took some grad courses in cognitive science years before I was a mom.

6. I think my brother has one, but I don't--just a really good one.
I can bull my way through music, movies, t.v. or wrestling, but my brother has an astonishing ability to say, "Oh, well, that was in Madison Square Garden in December 1982, and I recall there was a brief clip of it in this movie right in the beginning, which starred..." and he is dead right. It's a blessing in a "being damn good at Trivial Pursuits" way, but bad in that people don't know what the heck you're talking about, sometimes.

which has the Freebirds in the very beginning?

Remember how Terry Gordy (RIP) always took his boot off to brain the nearest Von Erich (also RIP)?

18. RIP Kerry Von Erich and most of the family, unfortunately--
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 12:05 AM by vixengrl
I'm a so so wrestling fan (you could say a *smark*, but not so much as my bro)--but too young to remember a lot of early '80's wrestling. My earliest wrestling memory was of my dad (a 6'3", 230 pounder, mostly muscle) telling little 5 yr old vixengrl that Andre the Giant was even bigger than he was, and needed to duck to go through doorways. But the Freebird/von Erich feud was long standing--I began following in the mid-80's, so I recall a bit...that was when tag wrestling was good. Not so arbitrary, and "let's just pair two superstars".

19. Saw the Road Warriors (LOD) v. Rock'n'Roll Express in 1984
(I would like to be called a smart mark myself , but I still love it because I'm a jerk). Anyway, Road Warriors come out to "Iron Man" and by any objective standard Marty Genneti should have left with a broken neck. Instead R'N'R leaves with the title.

Bottom line, it got me rooting for the bad guys, and laid the groundwork for me being a total ECW mark.

7. I have a very strong visual memory.
Not sure if it's actually photographic. I'm not autistic myself, but my oldest son has Asperger's.

10. Yes
It's always been a blessing, although I'm sure my family didn't appreciate it at times. And I'm 58.

Blessing!

I can write down directions and walk out the door without them.
And ... never get lost.

Same with phone numbers...as long as I see them written - I'm solid.
