On a p.s. - I was listening to YCDTOSA Vol. IV (or maybe Vol. V) today. Haven't listened to that one in years. Some wonderful stuff on it - especially the Thing Fish stuff. December always becomes my Zappa month - my tradition is no music but Zappa from Dec. 4 to Dec. 11 (which I started the day he died - I worked through my whole Zappa collection, and that took a week, so that's now the yearly tradition and then, in honor of his birthday, I listen to Zappa for another week).

Amazing stuff: the arrangement of "The Evil Prince," and the solo it contains. Ray White is a fucking HELL of a singer.

On Thing-Fish, that song really brings down the flow of the story (actually, all the re-used tunes do that too...but anyways!) because the arrangement is so lifeless and Murphy-Brock's recitation is so unintelligable. After hearing THAT version, I went running back to Thing-Fish, mumbling, "did I miss something....?"

And for me, October is Zappa month (gotta carry on the Halloween tradition somehow)

And, much as I find Thng Fish interesting, I do find it somewhat tiresome at times. Though Briefcase Boogie is incredible. But Ray hite's singing is WOW! Great arrangement of the song for live venue.

Woulda been nice to have actually seen a production of ThingFish as well. Supposedly Frank spent thousands and thousands of bucks on the prosthetic potato heads ALONE and there was no money left in the budget to stage the damn thing.....The rumor I heard was that the 84 tour was done just to recoup the losses.

Anyhow...as always, it's cool to Talk Frank w/ya...I'm goin' to bed.
