How many here keep an "emergency present" in the house?
Before we married, my wife and i agreed that it is pointless to buy xmas and birthday presents for each other, and to concentrate on our anniversary. But still, every year i get nervous that she has gotten me something, and i, true to my word, have gotten her nothing.

so, i try to keep an emergency gift hidden for, you know, emergencies. but this year i don't have one.

So, the question is, who here also keeps an emergency gift hidden. Maybe you have different reasons, like the inability to remember birthdays, etc.

1. I try to keep several around
Last time I went to the annual factory clearance sale at Buck Knives I spent about $200 on knives and stashed them in the closet with the Christmas stuff. They make great emergency gifts!

2. Not for my wife, but...
we got this electric bagel slicer for our wedding. The box is unopened, no retailer will return it (!), and we're not afraid to re-gift it next time a second cousin gets hitched.

3. I have a whole sackful of 'em
Not so much for Christmas or family gifts, but little things the teenage daughter can use for birthday parties and the like. She has a tendency to tell me at the last minute about party invitations. The big sack o' presents saves me several shopping trips a year.

4. me too--I always pick up a few toys when I'm at Walgreens
for the grandchildren to discover when they visit, or for Xmas stocking stuffers. This year I got chocolates, grooming items and stuff for older folks too
