I just got an email from my friend in Iraq
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 03:52 PM by sbj405
I worry about him everyday and worry with every news story I hear.

He's doing ok and seems to be making the best of things. He's only been there a few months though.

1. That must be so tough
I hope he and all the others come home safe and SOON!
It's hard to think about what the military folks are going through over there, especially at this time of year, and I don't even know anyone there, really. It must be extra difficult when you have friends or families over there.

3. What city is your friend in?
I have a friend in Mosul. He just barely, by minutes, avoided being in the mess hall when the explosion occured the other day.

Did your friend say his calls and emails are being limited? My friend's are - he said just about all the contractors packed up and left after the explosion and that's why it's taken so long to reach home.

I have to say, hearing from him today was the best Christmas present we could have received. We've been so worried about him. I've never known anyone in combat before. I will keep your friend in my thoughts; I want all of our troops to come home now.

5. I'm glad to hear that your friend is ok
My friend moves around a lot to various sites which is very concerning. He's mostly in Ramadi though.

Hasn't said anything about comms limitations other than he is really busy. His comments were pretty frank. The Iraqi police and contractors sound like a mess.

6. My friend wants to move to Canada when he gets out of the Army!
Speaks volumes for troop morale right there. :grr:

7. You mean he wasn't inspired by our pathetic SecDef's visit
:eyes:

Hopefully, your friend will hook up with Op Truth when he gets back(which I hope is soon). Most Americans still want to believe everything is great and we are helping the Iraqis.

8. I talk to a friend almost daily over there on yahoo messenger
Edited on Fri Dec-24-04 04:03 PM by jonnyblitz
Somehow he manages to get online plus use a webcam. We talk about common interests and he seems to rarely want to discuss the goings on over there so I don't push it. He is a 28 year old army captain who is in charge of enlisted men so I don't go on about my "opinions"because i know he needs to feel he is there for good reasons for his sanity. I told him we can discuss it all when it is behind him. He claims he spends most of his time consoling his freaking out sister online so I offer him light chat and support and occasionally I send him CDs that I burn from online. I also worry whenever I hear about the latest suicide bomb attack on the tv and remain that way until I see his name light up on my yahoo buddy list. :hi:
